Not everything Puck Off to Bullying shares will be directly about bullying. We also share information that helps young people and the adults supporting them build confidence, manage anxiety, cope with difficult feelings, learn from mistakes and handle challenges in healthier ways.

Every skill that strengthens individual well-being also helps build safer teams and stronger hockey communities.

Bullying prevention is not only about stopping harmful behaviour. It is also about helping people develop the skills to cope, grow, speak up and support one another.

The STICK Method from Puck Off to Bullying offers five practical steps:
S — SEE IT
Notice the behaviour, its impact, and who holds power. Pay attention to who is being targeted, excluded, or silenced.
T — TELL SOMEONE
Bring the concern to a safe adult or designated team contact. You don’t have to handle it alone.
I — INTERRUPT SAFELY
Use a direct phrase, a distraction, or a supported exit—when it’s safe.
“That’s not okay.”
“Come sit with us.”
“Let’s go find someone who can help.”
C — CONNECT
Stay with the person harmed and strengthen their support. Listen, take them seriously, and ask what they need.
K — KEEP FOLLOWING UP
Check what changed. Has the behaviour stopped? Does the person feel safer? Is more support or action needed?
Safety is a process, not a report. Protect the hearts behind the helmuts.

More on the STICK method with tips on how to address bullying and maltreatment in minor hockey.

Bullying in minor hockey can leave everyone wondering what to do next.

A player may be afraid that reporting will make the situation worse. A teammate may recognize that something is wrong but not know how to intervene. Parents may feel torn between protecting their child and allowing them to develop confidence. Coaches and association leaders may receive conflicting accounts and feel pressure to act immediately.

The STICK Method provides a shared response.

It does not assume that one conversation, consequence or policy will eliminate bullying. Instead, it gives players and adults five practical actions that can be used to recognize harmful behaviour, respond more safely and continue supporting the people involved.
