Sioux Lookout Volleyball Club
The Sioux Lookout Volleyball Club (SLVC) has had an exciting and impactful year, continuing to grow the sport of volleyball across the region while fostering youth development, teamwork, and community spirit. From grassroots programming to competitive success, the club has demonstrated a strong commitment to building athletes both on and off the court.

On July 23rd, the Sioux Lookout Volleyball Club proudly hosted its first annual Awards Celebration, a special evening dedicated to recognizing the accomplishments of all athletes, coaches, and programs. The event highlighted the progress and achievements across the club and brought together the volleyball community to celebrate a successful season.

Development Programs
A cornerstone of SLVC’s success is its focus on athlete development at the grassroots level.

SPIKES Program (Ontario Volleyball Association)

The SPIKES program once again served as an excellent introduction to volleyball for young athletes. Running through the month of May, the program welcomed 25 athletes and consisted of 10 sessions focused on the FUNdamentals of volleyball. The emphasis was on creating a positive and engaging environment where athletes could learn basic skills while enjoying the game.

In addition to player development, the SPIKES program also played a key role in developing youth coaches, giving older athletes valuable leadership and mentoring opportunities while helping sustain the future of the club.

14U Girls and Boys Development Program

The 14U programs provided a natural progression for athletes looking to build on their foundational skills. These programs emphasized game play, strategy, and skill development, all within a safe and fun environment. Athletes were given opportunities to experience teamwork, positioning, and game situations, helping them gain confidence and prepare for higher levels of competition.

Competitive Programs
SLVC’s competitive teams represented the region with pride, competing in the Volleyball Manitoba association, and achieving impressive results.

16U Girls Team
Led by Coach Laura and Assistant Coach Dale, this talented group of athletes from Sioux Lookout, Lac Seul, and Dryden competed at a high level throughout the season. The team faced some of the top teams in Manitoba, showcasing both determination and skill.

Season highlights included a second-place finish in a tournament, alongside meaningful growth in skill development and team bonding.

● Team MVP: Claire Sayers
● Most Improved Player (MIP): Brett Bachynski

17U Boys Team
Under the leadership of Coach Mike and Assistant Coach Jason, the 17U Boys team demonstrated remarkable growth and resilience. Competing against top Manitoba teams and highly skilled players from across the nation, the team worked hard to develop the speed, skill, and teamwork needed to succeed at a high level.

Their dedication paid off at the Manitoba Provincials, where they achieved a strong 10th-place finish overall.

● Team MVP: Jax Anderson
● Most Improved Player (MIP): Aiden Fiddler

18U Girls Team
The 18U Girls had a tremendous season, featuring a strong roster of athletes from Sioux Lookout, Dryden, and Kenora. Led by Coach Steph and Assistant Coach Talbot, the team showed consistent commitment, working hard to enhance their skills and compete throughout the club season. Their growth, effort, and teamwork made for a successful and memorable year.

● Team MVP: Nellie Angeconeb
● Most Improved Player (MIP): Falon Mackenzie

A special moment of the evening was the recognition of a true community leader.

Community Champion Award – Duane Ogemah
SLVC was honoured to recognize Duane Ogemah for his outstanding contributions to volleyball over the past 40 years. Duane has been a dedicated player, coach, and organizer, impacting hundreds of young athletes throughout the region.

He continues to give back by running open gyms and practices in Frenchman’s Head, welcoming anyone interested in playing and fostering a love for the game. His passion, commitment, and leadership have been instrumental in building and sustaining the strength of the local volleyball community.

The club is deeply grateful for Duane’s lifelong dedication—Sioux Lookout volleyball would not be what it is today without his energy and commitment.

The Sioux Lookout Volleyball Club continues to thrive as a hub for athletic development and community connection. From introducing young athletes to the sport through SPIKES, to competing at high levels across Manitoba, the club has demonstrated success at every stage.

With continued dedication from athletes, coaches, and community members, SLVC is well-positioned for even greater success in the years ahead. Well, that's a wrap! The 16U Summits finished the season this past weekend with VM Provincials. Our athletes played some solid volleyball, and although we didn't get the wins we needed, we did come out of the weekend accomplishing both personal and team goals. This season the 16Us played in 4 tournaments and an exhibition day, where we grew tremendously in our skills, mental game and as a team. Overall it was a great season! Huge thank you to the athletes, coaches and parents for their commitment to supporting our 16U team and the SLVC. Go Summits!
