Bill C-4 has now received Royal Assent, meaning the federal GST rebate on new homes for first-time buyers is officially in effect. Homes under $1M will see the GST removed, with reduced GST on homes between $1M and $1.5M. This change applies to agreements of purchase and sale signed on or after March 20, 2025. The Canada Revenue Agency will soon release the forms builders and buyers need to access the rebate. The Canadian Home Builders’ Association will continue advocating to expand GST relief to all new home buyers to further boost housing supply. 🏡

On behalf of the HNHBA Board of Directors, and with the support of Nic McCollum from , we delivered a $1,170 donation to Simcoe Caring Cupboard Food Bank this week.

The funds were raised at our Annual Christmas Gala, and thanks to Nic’s generous 50% match, the impact was doubled, helping ensure more local families have what they need this season. 🙌

As the holidays draw near, it’s a reminder that many in our community are navigating tough times. Every gesture of support makes a difference. 🧡

HNHBA President Ike Keesmaat, Past President & Director Sam Bunting, Executive Officer Melanie Mackay, Director Sarita Free, and Norfolk Mayor Amy Martin attended alongside members of our association and fellow HBAs at the Oxford County Builders’ Association event Hosted by Woodstock Home Hardware Building Centre.

A special thank-you to Adam Moulton, his incredible team, and Melissa Schenk, Executive Officer of the Oxford County Builders’ Association, for the work they did to bring this important event to the region and for their ongoing commitment to advancing housing collaboration in Ontario.

Hearing from Premier Doug Ford, MPP Ernie Hardeman, and Adam Moulton reinforced the importance of partnership in addressing Ontario’s housing challenges. Events like these remind us how strong our industry can be when we work together.

We had a blast at our Annual Joint Meeting with the Brantford Home Builders Association — a tradition over 30 years strong!

Nearly 100 guests came together to share ideas, strengthen partnerships, and talk about what’s next for our industry.
