Our Current Labour Disruption

There seems to be some confusion regarding the arbitration process. We hope this will clarify for everyone.

MYTH – If NACL and OPSEU agree to settle the current collective agreement and labour disruption by way of binding arbitration (also called interest arbitration), the Government would have to honour the arbitrator’s award and provide the funding necessary to satisfy the arbitrator’s award.

FACT – This is FALSE. The Government of Ontario would not be bound by the arbitrator’s award. This has been confirmed to NACL by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS). NACL is an independent and autonomous agency responsible for managing its own labour relations in a fiscally prudent and responsible manner. Whatever wages NACL agrees to at the bargaining table or NACL allows a 3rd party arbitrator to impose, NACL, alone, will be responsible for the payment of those wages.
