Roast them or grill them?
Honestly, you'll win with Ontario asparagus either way.
Roasting brings out crisp edges and deep, savoury flavour, while grilling adds smoky char and that fresh-off-the-BBQ taste of spring.

The best part? Both methods are fast, simple, and let Ontario asparagus stay the star of the plate. 💚

To roast (or airfry!):
Oil + salt + pepper
Bake at 400°F for approx. 5-10 minutes, depending on how crispy you want it
Look for it to be tender, with a slight bite

To grill:
Coat with oil + salt
Grill over high heat for 2–4 minutes
Look for lightly charred and fork-tender

So… are you roasting or grilling this season? 👀

You can boil asparagus, BUT don’t overcook it. Asparagus is best served when it retains its bright colour and crisp bite.
Bring water to a boil. Wash asparagus and trim the ends. Carefully add asparagus. Boil uncovered for about 3-5 minutes (depending on spear thickness). Drain well and serve immediately.

Simple, fresh, and perfectly in season. 💚

Ontario asparagus season always feels too short. One minute the fields are just waking up from winter, and the next, fresh asparagus is everywhere. Grilled at BBQs, tossed into pastas, added to brunch tables, and eaten straight off the baking tray before dinner even starts.

That’s the thing about seasonal food: when it’s only here for a little while, you appreciate it more.

Some things still just taste better during the local season! 💚

Our growers hear time and time again, that Ontario asparagus is just better than asparagus at other times of the year, and we agree!
Here are a few reasons why local asparagus is special.
1) It's harvested and shipped to stores same day, or within days so it's as fresh as you'll get.
2) We grow unique varieties that suit our cold climate. (Yes, asparagus has varieties, just like other produce, like apples!) We'll tell you about this more in a separate post!
3) Ontario asparagus plants naturally come into season each spring, because we have distinct seasons. The long period following harvest allows the plants here to naturally rejuvenate, supporting healthy spears for the following year.
4) We like to think our growers are among the best in the world!

Local asparagus has one of the shortest seasons of any crop, and we believe it's the best quality you can get, which is exactly why people look forward to it every year. Every spear is picked fresh, by hand, right here at home. Enjoy some this week!
