Happy International Dog Day!
Our Simcoe ADP friends celebrated with a visit from Oreoh, and are doing some dog related activities, like listing different breeds of dogs.
What are some unusual breeds you know of they could add to their list?

Tomorrow, our Grief and Bereavement Program Coordinator Julie Coulson will be the featured speaker at a Lunch and Learn hosted by the HAC - Health, Activity, Community. The theme is "How We Can Support Others Through Their Grieving Journey", which would be very helpful if someone in your life has experienced a loss, and you are at a loss as to how to best be there for them.

The HAC is located at 42 Main Street S in Hagersville, and the event runs from 12pm until 1pm.

Earlier this week our leadership team gathered in the Skye Room at The Greens At Renton for a Strategic Visioning Day, where we discussed how to keep showing up in all of the best ways possible for our clients, and for our staff and volunteers.
We shared alot of great ideas and set alot of goals that will carry us through the coming year.
A big thank you to the Greens for hosting us with a beautiful private room perfect for idea sharing and discussion, a great coffee and pastry bar to kick start our day, a delicious lunch to keep us fueled through the afternoon, and of course for Emilie's kindness and patience while we sorted out all of the details for today!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Our friends over at the Simcoe Lions Club are looking for a few extra hands THIS SATURDAY at their Chicken Dinner with the Downtown Simcoe Business Improvement Area (BIA)

We're still looking for a few extra hands to volunteer this Saturday at the Simcoe Lions Club BBQ in partnership with the Downtown Simcoe (BIA)! 🍗🎉

We’re expecting 400+ people over 3 hours, so I’d love to have a few friendly adults around to help keep things running smoothly.

A few spots we’re looking to fill:

🎈 Kids Zone / Bouncy Castle Supervision
There will be staff on site, but an extra friendly face nearby would be amazing—just keeping an eye on things and available if an adult is needed.

🧹 Picnic Table Upkeep
Looking for 2 people to help tidy the picnic table area between families. We’ll have 16 tables available, so a little cleanup help will go a long way!

🚗 Drive-Thru Assistance
Lion Doug and his crew will be running the drive-thru for our friends on the go! We’re looking for a hand or two to help answer questions and safely direct traffic into the Riversyde parking lot.

👋 General Help
We may need someone to relieve a Lion or volunteer of their station so they can take a rest or washroom break. A hand here and there would be wonderful!

For our staff ice cream party last Thursday, we wanted to make sure we had some fun outdoor games for staff and their kids to enjoy, so we reached out to our friends at ABEL Enterprises, who have a variety of party games they rent out as a fundraiser for their organization!

We borrowed a co****le game set, ring toss, limbo, giant kerplunk, giant jenga, and ladder ball, all of which are available to rent for a day, an evening, or a whole weekend at a very good price! They also rent out some concession equipment too!

Last Thursday our staff took the last hour of the day off to have an ICE CREAM PARTY!

Our team works hard every day bringing much needed services and programs to our local community, and they deserved a sweet treat to thank them for their commitment to their jobs and our clients.

So we called in Candyliscious Ice Cream Truck, who rolled up in their bright pink truck and slung scoops for our staff and some of the staffs' kids!

These two young entrepreneurs are pretty awesome, consider hiring them for your next event! Link to their profile is in the comments as it would not let us tag them!

Our Grief and Bereavement Coordinator Julie is very excited about the newest addition to Colonel Stalker Park in Simcoe!

Thanks to Simcoe resident Kathleen O'Mahony Gilchrist, who lost her son Jeremy (Bear) 4 years ago (and Norfolk County), we now have a Wind Phone!

A Wind Phone is an unconnected telephone that people who are missing someone can use to "call" their lost loved ones.

They say that the act of speaking into the receiver can help people process grief and gives them a chance to express unsaid words.
The concept originated in Japan in 2010 when Itaru Sasaki lost his cousin, and the idea gained popularity following the 2011 Tōhoku tsunami to help survivors cope with their losses.

The name comes from the Japanese words "kaze no denwa" (the phone of the wind), and the idea that words are carried on the wind.

We will be making sure that all of our clients who attend our Grief Groups are aware of this outlet for their sadness and pain at losing someone.

Included in the pictures is one we borrowed from Kathleen's page from the day the Wind Phone was unveiled.
