Speak Up & Show Up: Find Your Voice!

Are you a Black youth between the ages of 14–18? Join Parents Against Racism Simcoe County for an exciting evening where you can play mini golf, enjoy great food, connect with other Black youth, and build your confidence in public speaking.

This free event features Elder Ginelle, who will share insights and encouragement to help you discover and strengthen your voice. Whether you're new to public speaking or already love sharing your ideas, this is a fun and welcoming opportunity to learn, grow, and have fun at the same time.

As we head into summer, it’s important that our youth are equipped with knowledge, confidence, and an understanding of their rights when interacting with police, school officials, and other authorities.

Join Parents Against Racism Simcoe County for our upcoming workshop: Know Your Rights featuring guest speaker Janae Hines from Peacebuilders Canada. Peacebuilders International Canada

This powerful and informative session will help parents and youth better understand:

• What rights youth have during police interactions
• When police can search a person, phone, or belongings
• The right to remain silent and what youth are legally required to say
• How policing works in schools
• Street checks (carding) and how youth can respond safely
• Online rights, cyberbullying, and legal risks on social media

Knowledge is power — and every child deserves to understand their rights and feel prepared to navigate these situations safely and confidently.

Today we honour and remember Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people. ❤️🖤

Why should you care?

Because Indigenous women and girls are someone’s daughter, mother, sister, friend, classmate, neighbour, or colleague, and far too many families are still waiting for justice, answers, and safety.

Because Indigenous women and girls in Canada are over 6 times more likely to be victims of homicide than non-Indigenous women. This is not random. It is connected to systemic racism, colonialism, poverty, failures in child welfare, lack of housing and supports, and systems that too often ignore Indigenous voices and lives.Source: Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada.

This issue impacts all of us. The safety of women and girls should never depend on race, geography, or whether society sees their lives as worthy of protection.

Caring means doing more than posting.

What can you do?
• Learn about the Calls for Justice from the National Inquiry into MMIWG2S+
• Share missing persons posts involving Indigenous women and girls
• Challenge racist comments and stereotypes when you hear them
• Support Indigenous-led organizations, businesses, and events @
• Teach young people about Indigenous contributions, history and present-day realities

Unmuted: Real Conversations for Black Youth
A Supportive Virtual Group for Black Youth to Connect, Reflect, and Build Confidence

Unmuted is a supportive virtual group for Black youth ages 14–18 to connect, reflect, and build tools for navigating everyday life. Through guided conversations, participants will explore topics such as racial stress, identity, confidence, boundaries, friendships, self-care, and advocacy. The group offers space for honest dialogue, shared experience, and practical strategies for managing stress, building self-worth, and strengthening voice, connection, and community.

Attending the group will allow for volunteer hours.

Meet Britney

Her path to becoming a therapist wasn’t linear—and that’s real. She started in law but quickly realized it wasn’t the right fit. What stood out more was understanding people, systems, and how inequality impacts everyday life.

She transitioned into social work, spending 9 years supporting children and families navigating complex challenges and systemic barriers. Wanting to go beyond short-term support, she moved into private practice.

Now, she works with youth, families, and individuals—creating a space to be heard, heal, and grow. ✨

Natasha Shakespeare, President of PARSC, doesn’t wait to be acknowledged—she makes it happen.

While the Minister of Education was in Simcoe County, she sought him out directly and asked the question our community deserves answered: When will you meet with PARSC to address the ongoing concerns of anti-Black racism in Simcoe County?

This time—he committed to a meeting.

We’ll keep y’all posted.

Because being heard and seen requires more than presence—it requires action, accountability, and centering the voices of those most impacted. Our families have spoken. Our data is clear. The experiences of Black and racialized students cannot continue to be ignored.

We are not asking for a seat at the table—we are demanding to lead at the table

Today we celebrate a powerful and long-overdue milestone in our community.

Congratulations to Jerome Parchment on his promotion to Acting Captain—marking a historic first as the first Black firefighter in Barrie to reach this rank.

This achievement is more than a promotion. It represents perseverance, leadership, and the breaking of barriers that have existed for far too long. It is a moment of pride not only for Jerome and his family, but for the entire Barrie community.

Representation matters. Leadership matters. And today, we see both.

Thank you, Acting Captain Parchment, for your service, your dedication, and for paving the way for the next generation.
