Rock Solid Refuge

Rock Solid Refuge Rock Solid Refuge is a 12 month residential program for teen boys 13-18 years old with life controlling issues.

Rock Solid Refuge is a 12 month faith based, residential program for male teens. We offer a very structured environment that fosters personal growth and sets up our students for success in their relationships and careers. Our Program is designed for residents’ individual needs based on ongoing assessments. Our goal is to help the youth recover, learn and grow: mentally, physically, emotionally, an

d spiritually, thus improving their quality of life and enabling them to confront life’s challenges with confidence. Our program is structured around four key areas: Discipline, Life Skills, Education and Faith. DISCIPLINE:
Rock Solid Refuge (RSR) uses a level system to help teach the students gratitude, responsibility, submission to authority, leadership, time-management, decision making skills, and develop a strong moral compass. As the students progress through the levels, they are awarded more privileges, freedom, and responsibilities. LIFE SKILLS:
During a student’s stay at RSR, they will have the opportunity to learn various life skills including, but not limited to: basic carpentry, building maintenance, lawn and garden care, livestock care, and other farm duties. The students are also involved with various community service projects. This aspect of the program is used to assist the students in building a strong work ethic which promotes success in their communities, families, and future careers. EDUCATION:
An integral part of the program is the education component. RSR is an accredited independent school that offers Saskatchewan credits. Many students come to us falling behind or failing in their studies. Upon arrival each student is academically assessed and then given the opportunity to learn at their current level. RSR works diligently with each student to help them achieve their academic potential. It is our desire and goal for each student to leave RSR with the confidence and academic tools necessary to further their education after completing our program. FAITH:
The RSR staff members are committed to ensuring that students understand God’s love, forgiveness, and His ability to restore relationships. Each student is assigned a staff mentor who meets with them regularly to discuss needs, goals, and areas of personal growth. The strong relationships mentors build with their students offer them support during their stay and beyond. Staff advisors also stay in contact with parents in order to keep them involved in the process and updated with their son’s progress. We believe that through the love of Christ, and the commitment of our staff to a structured and caring environment, Rock Solid Refuge is where lives and families are renewed and ultimately restored.

This exercise is called "waterfall". It is part of our summer outdoor leadership program (ODL), where the students learn a variety of skills.

The goal of this exercise is to carry a cup of water on a kitchen towel for about 100 meters without it spilling. In order to be successful, you must use what we call "soft skills" like group communication, teamwork and problem solving (sometimes conflict management, depending on how it is going).

Try it for yourself and see how it goes!

Our Youth Care Workers make an incredible difference in the lives of young men. Spending more time with the students than any other staff members, these men teach through mentoring, role-modelling, relational influence, demonstrating life skills, and overseeing daily function. It is a challenging job, but one that is incredibly rewarding and has eternal significance.

We are currently looking for a new Youth Care Worker to join our team. Share this post with someone looking to make a difference or apply at www.rocksolidrefuge.com/careers
This video, though produced a while ago, shows the impact that you could make in the lives of young men and the impact a ministry like Rock Solid Refuge has on the people who work with us.

We got our garden planted last week! The students and staff are sure looking forward to this growing season.
