April 19- 25 is NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK
and
2026 is the INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF VOLUNTEERS

Project Linus Canada has asked Chapter Coordinators to make sure all blanketeers know how much they value and appreciate our talents and kindness.

So thank-you to all of our Project Linus - Selkirk Chapter volunteers!

- we donated 794 blankets in Selkirk & surrounding areas in 2025, up from 660 in 2024
- we have donated 276 blankets so far in 2026

Our hope is that these blankets, made with love by our volunteers, provide some joy to the children in need who receive them.

Attached are some photos from our April meeting this week. All of these blankets (and more) were prepared the next day for delivery to the HSC Burn Unit & Emergency Room and Ronald McDonald House in Winnipeg next week.

Within the last month 32 blankets were donated to 5 Lord Selkirk School Division Elementary schools for the guidance counsellors to distribute to children who are dealing with a serious illness, have experienced a loss or are just having a difficult day and may find comfort in a cozy blanket meant just for them.

How fortunate we are to be able to volunteer our time, resources and talents doing something we already love doing.

NOTE: Project Linus Canada has 49 active chapters and donated 16,932 blankets across Canada in 2025

It was a bittersweet meeting for Project Linus - Selkirk Chapter this month as we officially said good-bye to our long-time member Cathy Sveinson, who passed away on Jan 27, 2026. Cathy was such a lovely person and so loyal and helpful to Project Linus. We will miss her very much.

But Cathy would want us to continue making blankets for those children in need and we are….we had 26 attendees at our meeting and 53 blankets turned in for Project Linus.

We have such fun at Show & Tell at the end of the meeting, looking at all the beautiful work…very inspiring!

Here are some of the cozy blankets that were turned in this month by our blanketeers and are now packaged and ready to be delivered next week:

- 7 blankets to the Selkirk RCMP and START (Selkirk Team At Risk Teens) program

- 10 blankets to Huddle Selkirk's program

Also, we now have 9 tiny blankets that will either be used for the St. Boniface Labour & Delivery 20-blanket request at the end of the year, otherwise will be donated to the Thelma Wynne organization in Winnipeg for baby layettes.

Thank-you to all our blanketeers!

Just a friendly reminder for 2026 -

For anyone moving/down-sizing/decluttering, Project Linus - Selkirk Chapter would love to make use of any new or unused cotton, acrylic yarn, fleece or flannel material that you don’t want and/or don’t know what to do with.

Our volunteers would love to turn it into blankets for ill/traumatized children that may find some comfort from the warm hug of a blanket made just for them. We’ve distributed many blankets over the years and hope to do many more.

If you feel you have a donation for us, please email:
