Pothole Surveillance Unit - Sault Ste Marie

Hey folks!
We haven't posted many updates lately, sorry about that! So let me fill you in on what's been happening here at PSU HQ!

Our map technician is currently undergoing exams at the college, once those are done, there will be more time to better familiarize ourselves with our mapping software QGIS.

As of right now, we've started surveying streets, but because of a lack of time between only the two of us, we haven't been able to get much more done. The plan right now for that is to make sure we have a better understanding of QGIS, then we'll start inputting the data to the map and post that to our website.

Regarding the website, some changes are planned to be made. We plan on integrating a social media updates feed built into the website, we also plan on adding a section dedicated to our tools we use and links to our data.

At the end of the day this whole project is about providing a resource to the public of Sault Ste. Marie. We acknowledge the city and its workers are doing their best to keep up with the constant road maintenance, but objectively speaking there just isn't enough time, resource, or manpower.

Major potholes have been documented, thank you to everyone who used the tip-off form!

Our main issue currently is finding a roadmap of Sault Ste Marie that we can use as a basemap in the QGIS software!!

If there's any GIS experts or anyone familiar with mapping who'd be willing to point us in the direction of a basemap we can use, that'd be wonderful!

It's going slow but we're getting there! Initial surveying will be done on the major roads of Sault Ste Marie this weekend. Website should be less clunky by tomorrow.

Volunteer form up! Will work on the website user interface today— I'm not the technologically skilled one, that would be my partner. Live map should be up within the week.

The PSU is still in it's beginning stages, and the website is still a work in progress. The links to our page work, as does the link to the pothole tip-off form. Volunteer form will be added next, then the Document Archive, and finally, the live map. Please follow our page for progress and updates!

Hey everyone! We're the Pothole Surveillance Unit, a project dedicated to documenting potholes in Sault Ste Marie, ON, and documenting them on a live map. Right now, we are in the beginning stages, and accept any information about potholes that YOU, as citizens, encounter!

Linked below is a form you can use to report a pothole you have encountered, which we will then use to add more data to our map, which is still in the works. Every report is appreciated and helps us a lot, and we hope that this project helps keeps the roads safer for SSM!
