🎨 Last Saturday, ACCANOPCGs brought together Black newcomer parents, caregivers, and guardians for an afternoon dedicated to wellness, creativity, and connection.

We were delighted to have Nicole Rahaman-Winchester facilitate a guided paint session, creating a space where participants could slow down, express themselves, and simply enjoy the moment while connecting with one another.

Thank you to everyone who attended and made the session so special. We are also grateful to Nicole for sharing her talent and to Ontario Trillium Foundation for making programs like this possible through their generous support. Investing in wellness is investing in stronger families and a stronger community. 🖤🎨

As we reflect on last month’s Kitchen Table Series session, we are grateful for another meaningful opportunity to gather, learn, and connect as a community.

During our May session, we explored important conversations around holistic wellness, preventative health, and emotional healing with our guest speaker, Dr. Ijeoma Oaikhena. Thank you, Dr. Oaikhena, for sharing your expertise, wisdom, and practical insights on promoting health and wellbeing in our community.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their continued support in funding this program. Your investment helps create safe and welcoming spaces where community members can access valuable health information, engage in meaningful dialogue, and build stronger connections.

A special shout-out to our Sudanese cooks for preparing a delicious meal that brought comfort, culture, and community to our gathering.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to another enriching Kitchen Table Series session. We look forward to continuing these important conversations and strengthening community wellness together.

Our April parenting session created a meaningful space for Black immigrant parents, caregivers, and guardians to share lived experiences, reflect on the realities of raising children in a new country, and exchange practical strategies for navigating parenting in Canada.

The conversations were honest, relatable, and empowering, reminding us that parenting across cultures comes with both challenges and growth. From supporting children’s development to building positive and nurturing home environments, the shared wisdom in the room was truly impactful.

Parenting comes with many questions, but no one should have to navigate the journey alone. 🖤

A sincere thank you to our funder for supporting initiatives like this and helping create spaces where Black immigrant families can connect, learn, and thrive together.

This session created a welcoming space for asking questions, sharing experiences, and receiving guidance as Black newcomer parents and caregivers navigate life in Canada.

On February 7, 2026, we hosted our monthly Kitchen Table Series Talk, focusing on tax in Canada. Designed specifically for Black newcomer parents, caregivers, and guardians, knowing that many in our community will be filing their taxes in Canada for the very first time.

We talked about:
✔Why filing taxes is important
✔What documents are needed
✔Benefits and credits families may qualify for
✔Where to access trusted, free community tax clinics

A big thank you to the Sault Community Career Centre, our organizational mentor, for graciously hosting us and creating such a welcoming space for our session.

And a special appreciation to Yssra Abakar for generously sharing her knowledge and time with our community.

We are also deeply grateful to our funder, the Ontario Trillium Foundation , whose support makes initiatives like the Kitchen Table Series possible.

As we celebrate Black History Month, we honour not only the legacy of those who came before us, but also the resilience and strength of Black newcomer parents and guardians building new futures here in Canada🖤
