Today is Red Dress Day, also known as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit People.

While we remember and honour the victims and their families, more importantly we must recommit to fighting for their justice.

The abuse of Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people remains rampant and as trade unionists, activists, and allies - we all have a part to play in dismantling the oppressive structures that have allowed this violence to remain unabated.

April 28, the National Day of Mourning, is a solemn occasion to remember workers who were killed at work, those who have been injured on the job and those who have been made ill by their work.

On this day, we mourn the dead and reaffirm our commitment to fight for the living: a fight to make every workplace safe.

“This is an all-out attack on Canadian workers, their families and the industries that keep our economy running,” says USW National Director Marty Warren.

“Trump is imposing tariffs that have nothing to do with fair trade or the best interests of workers in the United States either. This reckless decision threatens jobs, risks devastating the Canadian communities that rely on them and will disrupt the supply chains on which North America depends.”
