Alexandre Péloquin joined the Canadian Armed Forces after spending years in cadets and pursuing a long-held goal of military service. He enlisted in October 2007 and later deployed to Afghanistan, where Canadian personnel were conducting patrols and security operations in challenging and high-risk conditions.

In 2009, at the age of 20, Péloquin lost his life after a roadside bomb detonated while he was on patrol. Improvised explosive devices remained one of the most serious dangers faced by Canadian service members throughout the Afghanistan mission, particularly during ground movements and operational patrols.

Following his death, residents of Brownsburg-Chatham, Quebec gathered to honor his service as his hometown paid tribute to his memory. Friends also recognized his admiration for Superman by wearing the symbol associated with the character, reflecting a personal connection remembered by those who knew him.

Sean Teal served with the Canadian Armed Forces during Operation Medusa, one of the largest combat engagements involving Canadian troops since the Korean War. His unit faced intense enemy resistance in a high-risk environment marked by sustained fire and close-range combat.

During the engagement, despite being injured, he assisted wounded personnel, recovered a fallen comrade, and continued to operate under direct fire. His actions contributed to the survival of others and the continuation of the mission under difficult conditions.

He was awarded the Star of Military Valour, recognizing his conduct in combat. His story remains part of discussions around military recognition and the evaluation of acts of bravery within Canada’s honours system.
