Best Buddies Canada is a national charitable organization dedicated to enhancing our community through one-to-one friendships between individuals with intellectual disabilities and students. Best Buddies is grounded in the belief that friendship is important to the development of all individuals and that for all individuals with intellectual disabilities, friendship is a medium through which they
can integrate more fully into their communities. Our program gives people involved the chance to have experiences which most people take for granted - going for coffee, out to a movie, or simply enjoying the company of a good friend. At each chapter students are matched with individuals with intellectual disabilities who share similar interests. The "Buddy Pairs" call each other weekly and get together approximately twice a month. Four times a year all the Buddy Pairs at a chapter hold a group activity. Each chapter is managed by student volunteers, who are assisted by a person with an intellectual disability, a Buddy Advocate, where possible. We are currently looking for University of Saskatchewan student buddies to be matched with an individual with an intellectual disability and/or people to sit on the executive (this includes sitting on committees, helping plan events, fundraising, and whatever other fun things we can come up with). Joining the group does not automatically sign you up to be a student buddy or an executive; you can join just to show your support for the group and to stay informed of what is going on within the group. Feel free to invite other students you know that may be interested in the program
