We are absolutely blown away by the incredible heart of our community! When Debby Winterton saw our Reverse Advent Calendar, she didn't just give it a "like"—she took it upon herself to complete the entire thing!

Debby’s dedication means so many more essential items are heading to those who need them most this season. It’s a beautiful reminder that one person’s decision to jump in can make a massive difference.
Thank you, Debby, for being such an inspiration and for helping us spread the true spirit of Christmas! ❤️🎁

This Reverse Advent Calendar wouldn't be the same without the incredible kindness of our community. I want to take a moment to give a huge shout-out and a heartfelt thank you to the following people for their generous donations:

🦷Jeff and Adam at North End Dental Centre - Thank you for providing the essentials! Your donation of toothbrushes, toothpaste, and mouthwash ensures that families have the basics they need.
🛏️ Sandy Winterton – Thank you for your $25 donation. This was used to purchase 8 queen-size pillowcases, helping to provide comfort and a fresh start for those at the home.
🧖‍♀️Kaitlyn Unsworth – Thank you for your thoughtful contribution of granola bars and a variety of self-care and hygiene items!
🧖‍♀️Catherine Elizabeth – A big thank you for your donation of self-care and hygiene products.

These contributions go a long way in supporting the Women's Interval Home of Sarnia Lambton and making the holiday season a little brighter for their residents.

🎁Reminder: I am still accepting last-minute donations until noon tomorrow (Christmas Eve)! Comment or DM for information.

Can you believe it's already Week 2 of our Reverse Advent Calendar journey is already done? Time is flying by, and the generosity of everyone reaching out is truly heartwarming. Each week, as we gather items for the Women’s Interval Home, I'm reminded of the incredible power of community and giving back. It’s also been a really grounding way to keep the true spirit of the season in mind.

Seeing the Week 2 haul come together also makes me realize how much of an impact even one person can make. From pantry staples to basic toiletries, these small daily additions are starting to add up to something that will hopefully make a big difference for many people in our community this Christmas.

We still have 8 more days if you are interested in contributing. A quick reminder, we take physical donations and cash donations (receipts will be provided)! Message to find out how to donate.

(PS - our brushes for week 6 came in so we included a picture of that as well!)

Welcome to The Reverse Advent Calendar Project! This post contains all the information you need to follow and support our mission this December.

💖 Supporting the Women's Interval Home
We are proud to announce that this year’s entire collection of essential items will be donated to the Women's Interval Home of Sarnia Lambton! Their work is absolutely vital, providing safety, support, and resources to women and children in crisis in our community.

🗓️ This Year's Calendar Checklist
I will personally be following the 24-day calendar shown in the image below. This list was created directly from the specific shelter needs and their website wish list, ensuring maximum impact. To see the full list, or to donate directly, please visit their website (https://www.womensintervalhome.com/donate-now).

🎁 How You Can Help
Your generosity truly matters! Please remember: All items donated by the community are added in addition to the 24 items I collect on my personal calendar.

🚨 IMPORTANT DONATION NOTE: The Women's Interval Home is currently only able to accept NEW ITEMS for clothing, underwear, bedding, and their specific shelter wish list items to ensure the highest standards of safety and hygiene for residents. Non-perishable food items are welcome.

👚👖Donate Items: You can donate any item on the calendar list. Please ensure clothing and wish list items are NEW.

💵Cash Donations: This is always helpful for purchasing high-need items that must be bought new.

📩To receive all donation details (for both physical items and cash contributions, with receipts provided for cash), simply comment the words "ADVENT 2025" on any of our posts! We will then send you a private message with the full instructions.

📢 Share the Journey
I post weekly updates (and sooner if community donations are received!) to track our progress.

Please share this page and this post with your network to support essential services right here in Sarnia-Lambton. We need your help to reach a wider audience and truly make this a massive success for the Women's Interval Home!

Hello, Sarnia-Lambton community and beyond! I'm so excited to officially launch this page to document my annual tradition: The Reverse Advent Calendar!

This year marks my 6th consecutive year of this project! For the last five years, I've primarily shared this journey anonymously on Instagram (.thing.good.365), and I will continue to post there. I'm expanding to Facebook this year to connect with more people and boost community engagement!

What is a Reverse Advent Calendar?

Simply put: instead of receiving a gift daily in December, you give one! Every day until Christmas Eve, I collect one non-perishable food item, hygiene product, or essential item. On December 24th, the entire collection is donated to a local Sarnia charity.

Local Impact Note: In previous years, the collected items have proudly been donated to organizations like the Inn of the Good Shepherd and River City Vineyard.

How You Can Help

I am gladly accepting donations to make this year's collection the biggest yet! Please note: All items donated by the community are added in addition to the 24 items I personally commit to collecting on my calendar.

Physical Donations: Essential items, non-perishable food, and hygiene products are always needed.

Cash Donations: This allows me to purchase specific items the charities request most.

To receive all donation details (for both physical items and cash contributions, with receipts provided for cash), simply comment the words "ADVENT 2025" on any of our posts! We will then send you a private message with the full instructions.

I will be posting weekly updates (and sooner if community donations are received!) to show our collective progress.

Stay tuned! This evening, I'll be sharing the specific Reverse Advent Calendar Checklist I plan to follow this year to guide my daily item collection. Let's make this a season of incredible local giving!
