Hello, Sarnia-Lambton community and beyond! I'm so excited to officially launch this page to document my annual tradition: The Reverse Advent Calendar!
This year marks my 6th consecutive year of this project! For the last five years, I've primarily shared this journey anonymously on Instagram (.thing.good.365), and I will continue to post there. I'm expanding to Facebook this year to connect with more people and boost community engagement!
What is a Reverse Advent Calendar?
Simply put: instead of receiving a gift daily in December, you give one! Every day until Christmas Eve, I collect one non-perishable food item, hygiene product, or essential item. On December 24th, the entire collection is donated to a local Sarnia charity.
Local Impact Note: In previous years, the collected items have proudly been donated to organizations like the Inn of the Good Shepherd and River City Vineyard.
How You Can Help
I am gladly accepting donations to make this year's collection the biggest yet! Please note: All items donated by the community are added in addition to the 24 items I personally commit to collecting on my calendar.
Physical Donations: Essential items, non-perishable food, and hygiene products are always needed.
Cash Donations: This allows me to purchase specific items the charities request most.
To receive all donation details (for both physical items and cash contributions, with receipts provided for cash), simply comment the words "ADVENT 2025" on any of our posts! We will then send you a private message with the full instructions.
I will be posting weekly updates (and sooner if community donations are received!) to show our collective progress.
Stay tuned! This evening, I'll be sharing the specific Reverse Advent Calendar Checklist I plan to follow this year to guide my daily item collection. Let's make this a season of incredible local giving!
