Some photos and info regarding a recent Sunday hike. Thanks to RK.

The plaque at Drummond Park commemorates
Marc Holmes who was co-founder of our Trail and Nature Club. It was nice to acknowledge him following our hike. Also nice to think about a former club member who was the potter that made the owl trail markers which yet can be seen showing the way along the White Pine Trail.

That group photo also relates to the boulder that sits between the two cedars that rise in the background. These trees have "book-ended" the edges of a large boulder with a petroglyph of a seal. Several of our group did not know of this most interesting archeological reminder of the island's past inhabitants. Pat and I always include a stop at Drummond with visitors specifically to show them this carving and to explain about the extensive clam gardens of Fulford Harbour, and that of Russel Island and a small one on Ganges Harbour.

Regarding the petroglyph.... the story, long ago, is that a Salt Springer in the 1930s had pulled the boulder out of the inter-tidal where petroglyphs of the Inside Passage are normally found, with the exception of the many carved into bedrock at Bella Coola's Thorsen Creek. Read the article posted about this particular rock in the Driftwood Jan 3, 1979. Thanks again to R. K.

The Sunday hikers enjoyed a trip to Daffodil Point and Burgoyne waterfront. If trilliums were people we’d have a photo of the hikers!

Oh, the places we go! The hikers and a few inner children trekked on Mt Erskine on Tuesday and took in the fairy doors, the broccoli tree, the cave, yummy cookies, and some magnificent views. Splendid time with a bunch of fine folk!

The ramblers took the opportunity on Tuesday to explore our newest park, the Morningside Community Park. It used to be called Secret beach by the locals… not a secret now. The property was donated by the family of Ruth Baldwin, who passed away in 2009. They stated, "Ruth loved the property and would be thrilled to see it being used as a community park for all to enjoy.”
