Showing Up — And Looking for a More Permanent Home

Consistency matters. For many of our neighbours, knowing that someone will be there — same time, same table — brings stability in a world that often feels uncertain. That commitment hasn’t changed.

For now, we will continue serving from our usual area. Our neighbours know where to find us, and we will keep showing up as we always have. That reliability remains at the heart of what we do.

At the same time, recent weeks have made something clearer: it’s important that we find a more permanent, welcoming location — one that allows us to serve consistently while also minimizing any unintended impact on nearby businesses or property owners. We never want our presence to create tension, disrupt operations, or put anyone in a difficult position. Our goal has always been simple — to quietly serve, build relationships, and move on respectfully.

Because of that, we’re beginning to actively look for a long-term spot that offers:

Predictable access
Minimal disruption to surrounding businesses
A safe and welcoming space for our neighbours
The ability to serve consistently in all seasons
A setup that does not require open flames or temporary workarounds

This isn’t about changing what we do — it’s about strengthening it. A stable location helps everyone: our neighbours, volunteers, and the surrounding community.

If you know of a place that might work — a parking lot, church property, community space, business willing to host, or even a covered outdoor area — we would be grateful to hear from you. Even introductions or suggestions are helpful.

And as always, we ask for prayer — for wisdom, for the right location, and for continued unity with the community around us. Every step forward for Neighbors Table has come through open doors and willing hearts. We trust that the right space will come in time.

Until then, we’ll keep doing what we’ve always done: showing up, serving with respect, and caring for our neighbours — quietly and consistently.

It’s been just over a year since we first set up a table.

What started with a few people, some hotdogs, and a willingness to show up has grown into something steady. Familiar faces, real relationships, and a rhythm that now feels part of the week.

Along the way, we’ve been incredibly blessed. Open Arms Mission has stepped in with food, and City Serve with supplies — and because of that, we’re now in a place where those basic needs are consistently covered. That’s something we don’t take lightly.

Recently, through Start Me Up Niagara, we were asked if we could take on Saturday nights. It’s one of the only nights in St. Catharines with little to no consistent food service.

The reality is… we can’t be in three places at once.

But maybe that’s not the point.

We’re looking for people willing to step into that gap. We have the food, the supplies, and a structure that works. What’s needed is presence — people willing to give up a Saturday evening to serve from 7:00–8:30 PM in St. Catharines.

As things grow, we’re also feeling the stretch of moving food, supplies, and people between locations. It’s manageable, but not always simple. Like everything so far, we trust it will come together in the right way.

If you’ve been following along and wondering where you fit — this might be it.

If not, we simply ask:

Please pray.

For people to step in.
For continued provision.
And that we remain faithful.

We’ll keep showing up

It’s been a little while since our last update. The rhythm of the tables has taken over — one week flows into the next, and before you know it, time has passed.

When we started Neighbors Table, it was simple. A few people, a folding table, and a desire to just show up. No plan, no structure — just obedience. And week after week, God has met us there.

As things have grown, so have the practical realities. Moving between locations, coordinating volunteers, carrying supplies, keeping food warm, and making sure everyone ends up where they need to be — it all starts to overlap in ways that are manageable, but not always simple.

Starting the first week of April, our Thursday table will be moving through a partnership with Start Me Up Niagara to 203 Church Street in St. Catharines. This gives us a bit more stability and freedom to serve, and we’re grateful for that.

This ministry has always been self-funded, and by God’s grace, we’ve always had what we needed. As we step into this next season, we can feel things stretching a bit — in a good way.

If you’ve been following along, supporting, or praying, thank you.
As we move forward, we simply ask:

Please pray.

For wisdom, for provision in whatever form it comes, and that we would remain faithful to what we’ve been called to do.

We’ll keep showing up.

The cold these past weeks has been intense, so we’ve adjusted our rhythm a bit — starting at our usual spots and then heading to the shelters to serve those waiting to get in for the night.

What continues to amaze us is that even in sub-freezing temperatures, people come out expecting us to be there. It’s not just about food. It’s about connection. Familiar faces. Consistency.

Last night, a young woman (we’ll call her A.) who had faithfully attended our Welland table was relocated to St. Catharines. She actively asked around the community where the tables were until she found us. When she did, she said she was relieved to have found a bit of “home” here.

Let that sink in.

A folding table in the cold… and someone calls it home.

We’ve also seen some of our regular guests start bringing soup and helping serve. We went out to minister, and they are ministering to us with what little they have. It’s humbling.

Yes, there have been complaints and meetings. Yes, there’s opposition. But moments like this remind us why we keep showing up.

Please pray for wisdom and perseverance. The nights are cold, but we’ll keep being there.

This week we celebrate 1 year of Neighbors Table — and honestly, it’s hard to believe how fast that went by.

When we started, we had hotdogs, hot chocolate, and a simple goal: show up and love our neighbors. What we didn’t expect was how quickly strangers would start feeling like… well, neighbors.

Over the year we’ve seen laughter, tears, prayers, kids opening gifts at the table, deep conversations over candy, and people waiting for us before we even park. We’ve also seen hard things — addiction, mental health struggles, broken families — and moments where we didn’t have answers, only presence.

We’ve been out 83 nights, had 105 volunteers, and served thousands of hot drinks and hotdogs — but what really matters are the relationships and the trust that grows week after week.

The biggest lesson this year? We don’t have to fix everything. We just have to be faithful.

Thank you to every volunteer, every prayer, every donation, every word of encouragement — and thank you, Lord, for walking this journey with us.

Here’s to Year Two. ❤️

Happy New Year, everyone. 🎉

As we step into 2026, we’re grateful for all that God carried us through in 2025 — the blessings, the heartbreaks, and everything in between. Today’s table was a powerful reminder of why we keep showing up.

Throughout the Christmas season we told our guests we’d be bringing gifts for kids, not knowing what to expect. Tonight, seeing 6–8 kids show up with their moms and dads — and watching our regular guests interact with them so naturally — was something we won’t forget.

Guests who rarely talk about family suddenly became playful, protective, and engaged. Kids were opening wrapped gifts, laughing, and playing right there at the table. For a moment, it didn’t feel like an outreach… it felt like a community.

And while it was beautiful, it was also sobering. These kids are growing up in hard circumstances, shaped by instability and brokenness that no child should have to carry. Yet in the middle of all that, there was joy, safety, and kindness — even if just for a little while.

Moments like this don’t happen by accident. They happen because people keep showing up week after week. Because relationships are built slowly. Because trust is earned, not rushed.

We’re humbled, encouraged, and thankful as we start this new year. Thank you to everyone who prays, gives, and serves — and thank you, Lord, for reminding us that grace still shows up in the most unexpected places. 🙏

On Christmas Day in St. Catharines, something small reminded us why presence matters.

Throughout the year, many of the folks who come by our table do so consistently. We learn their names. Their stories. Their struggles. This Christmas, we decided to personalize the gifts—not with anything extravagant, but with intention.

This is Joey with Shawn.

Shawn is a young man who has been going through a difficult season. The kind of season where life feels heavy and the future uncertain. When Joey handed him his gift and Shawn saw his own name written on it, everything changed. His posture softened. His face lit up. For a moment, the noise quieted.

He wasn’t just another person passing by a table.
He was seen.
He was known.

It’s easy to underestimate how powerful that is.

We often think transformation requires big programs or perfect words. But sometimes, it’s as simple as remembering someone’s name and showing up again and again. Consistency builds trust. Presence builds dignity.

This moment wasn’t about the gift itself. It was about recognition. About reminding someone, in the middle of crisis, that they matter—that they haven’t been forgotten.

That’s what the table is really about.

Thank you to every volunteer who showed up this year, prayed, served, listened, and cared. You may never fully know the impact of what feels ordinary to you. But moments like this remind us: grace is often found in the smallest details.

As we get ready for our last table of the year today at 1:00 PM in St. Catharines, we wanted to pause and say thank you.

Looking back over the year, it’s honestly humbling. By God’s grace, we’ve been out on the streets a combined 83 nights between Welland and St. Catharines, and we haven’t had any major security incidents. That alone is something we’re deeply grateful for.

Along the way, 105 different volunteers stopped by to help. Together, we served about 8,500 cups of hot chocolate or coffee, 7,500 hotdogs, nearly 300 pounds of cookies, 1,500 chocolate bars, and countless bags of clothes, shoes, and supplies.

Those numbers sound big — but standing on the streets week after week keeps you grounded. In the bigger picture of homelessness and brokenness, it’s still just a small drop in a very big bucket. And that’s okay.

What we’ve seen is real need… and real grace. This ministry didn’t start as a program. It started as a response to a simple call: go out and make disciples.

One of the biggest lessons this year has been this: not everyone is called to be on the front lines, but everyone who prays, gives, encourages, or shows up in small ways is helping sustain the work.

So thank you — to every volunteer, every prayer warrior, every supporter.

And above all, thank you, Lord, from whom all blessings flow.

We’re grateful, we’re humbled, and we’re ready for whatever God has next.

Last week reminded us how complex life on the streets really is.

One of our regular guests asked for help understanding a court case he was facing. Reading through the documents was sobering — a tangled story of addiction, violence, broken relationships, and pain on all sides. It was a reminder that the people we care for are often carrying histories far heavier than we can see on a Thursday night.

Moments like this highlight the strain placed not just on individuals, but on police, courts, lawyers, and emergency services — systems constantly responding to crises that begin long before an arrest or court date ever happens.

Life on the streets is lonely and dangerous, yet marked by a strange camaraderie born out of survival. Without strong human connections — and without Christ — life can spiral quickly into chaos.

That night ended in prayer. And for the first time, our guest seemed to grasp that there is a God who loves him — not because he’s perfect, but because grace exists precisely for moments like this.

We’ll keep showing up.
Because even in dark places, hope still finds a way.
