Here's a few of our youth agricultural summer team learning and planting the green wall at One Tiny Farm! The garden is POPPING, and crops are all in the ground to grow and feed families and local seniors in need all summer through the pay-it-forward Foodbox Program.

Thank you to Canada Summer Jobs for making this possible for them and us (and to Donna Bell & Patrick Weiler for always advocating for this funding at the federal level)!

These moments make us misty! We had a member social last week, and threw out some chopping boards and rhubarb from neighbourhood gardens (thank you to all of you, especially SunCreek Farms for over 70 pounds of it!).

We didn't even ask anyone to chop. They just filled the tables and started yapping. 🥰 Right in the feels!

Tart rhubarb, warm vanilla bean, and local strawberries will all find their way into drink syrups for Sunday Happy Hours at the Tiny Farm and the Good News Ice Cream Shack opening soon in Roberts Creek! Your delicious treats support community gardens, and the Fruit Share Project, and get food into bellies of locals facing food insecurity. Win-win!

Meghan showed up with armfuls of rhubarb to donate from the garden, and she and Hilary reluctantly posed for a picture... Meghan perhaps a little more reluctant, with her eye peeking out like a whale from the sea of rhubarb.

We're going to bring youth together to learn to make and preserve rhubarb syrups, and use that delicious syrup to flavour gorgeous, artisan ice cream (shop opening soon!), to help fund more food security initiatives!

Hello wonderful humans! We just held an AGM with record turnout (70 people! THANK YOU!), and with all the dining, chatting, and official business, we didn't get a chance to review much in the way of programs.

A few of last year's updates:

🍅 One Tiny Farm added ramps and pathways for wheelchair accessibility
🍅 We added dozens of tools to the Sunshine Coast Tool Library, which now has almost 200 tools available for free to the community for projects, growing, harvesting, preserving & more!
🍅 We provided 320 free (pay-what-you-can) Foodboxes to local families, isolated seniors, caregivers of terminally ill family members, and working folks one paycheque away from homelessness.
🍅 The Foodbox Program is expanding to Powell River!
🍅 We grew over 2500 lbs of food at our Community Gardens
🍅 We had 265 registrations for workshops & educational events
🍅 We brought together Food Systems leaders across the Coast for the Food Systems Network, which led to collaborative recommendations for incorporating "food" into our Official Community Plans with the SCRD, & a plan for a mutually beneficial food infrastructure project.
🍅 We built relationships with Land Trusts around BC, and slowly grew our research and planning for a Sunshine Coast Farm Commons - to own and protect foodlands in perpetuity.
🍅 We were nominated by WorkBC as one of 24 non-profits in the Province prioritizing equity, accessibility, and inclusion in their workplaces
🍅 We began planning for the Fruit Tree Project to rescue back yard tree fruit, and get it into the bellies that need it! 2026 is on!
🍅 We created a beautiful new Program Guide for other regions around the province to launch regional Foodbox Programs - to bring farms together to collaborate in crop planning and food distribution collectively.

AND SO MUCH MORE!!!

All of this is possible because of you! Grants and funding contracts support almost half of this work, but fundraising and donations are CRITICAL and support more than half of the important work of Food Security for today and Food Systems work for tomorrow in this region!

Heads up! Tiny Farm Big Table Dinner Tickets are GOING LIVE THIS WEEK! 3 dates to choose from this year!

Every dinner is such an experience - set in the flowers and rows of veggies at One Tiny Farm, under twinkle lights, featuring farm-fresh, creative and beautiful fare. Live music, a rustic bar serving real-fruit artisan cocktails, and conversation with other inspiring people like you, who care about the future of our food (these are fundraisers for food security)!

Spring is here and the Farm Stand is open all day every day until the end of the season! We have three different varieties of seed potatoes, black currant plants, spinach starters, as well as cilantro kale and spinach in our fridge ready to be purchased and eaten!
