Richmond Poverty Reduction Coalition Our goal is to work towards alleviating the effects of poverty in the community of Richmond, B.C. and beyond.

Did you know? The filing deadline for the 2025 tax year has already passed, but you can still file your taxes. If you do not expect to owe taxes you should not face late filing penalties.

The benefits of income tax filing can be significant. People living on low or modest incomes generally receive $400-$500 each year they file their taxes from benefits like the GST Credit and BC Sales Tax Credit.

📢 On July 1, the federal government announced that recipients of the Canada Disability Benefit ( ) will be entitled to a $150 supplement, to reduce costs associated with applying for its pre-requisite, the Disability Tax Credit ( ) starting September 1, 2026.

This payment will be available for anyone who was approved for the DTC and is entitled to any amount of the CDB. Anyone who is currently receiving or has received a CDB payment will still be eligible, even if they are no longer receiving CDB payments.

📢 On June 16th, 2026, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) announced upcoming changes to the Disability Tax Credit ( ) application process that will impact the way you are able to submit an application.

Key dates to note 👇:

- July 14, 2026: You will no longer be able to use the “Submit Documents” section in your CRA account to send DTC applications or related documents, unless the CRA specifically requests additional information. You must send your DTC application to the CRA using the digital DTC application form or by mail.

- September 8, 2026: Older versions of Form T2201 (issued before 2023) will no longer be accepted, as they do not meet the updated requirements. You will need to submit a new application if the version of your form is from before 2023.

💡Shape Your Community: Local Government and Tools for Change (Online) 🚌🍎

Date: Wednesday June 17, 6:00pm-7:30pm

From public transit to housing to food security, city governments make decisions that have daily impact for disabled and neurodivergent people with intersecting identities. As we approach the 2026 local elections, join Women Transforming Cities (WTC) and Live Educate Transform Society for a 90 minute Zoom workshop to learn more about how local government works – and ways to engage that acknowledge barriers to participation. Share your experiences, and brainstorm with others for what you need in your community to thrive, and discuss the issues our local government should prioritize over the next 4 years and beyond.

All community members are welcome. Zoom registration required.
