MISSION STATEMENT Hummingbird Ministries envisions establishing various types of ministries, including healing Circles, performing arts, cultural & spiritual healing workshops and annual events: 1) to restore hope, freedom and justice for Indigenous people's healing socially, politically and spiritually; 2) to promote healing of the broken relationship between the Church and Indigenous people and between Canada and Indigenous people. Our ministry includes teaching Circles which respect Indigenous wisdom and spirituality as well as the Christian faith and teaching cultural arts for Indigenous children with the help of instructors of Indigenous culture, dance, music and drama. Through the arts and events that bring people together with Indigenous people, our prayer is to change the hearts and minds of Church people and Canadians with hope for genuine acts of reconciliation with Indigenous people. Our ministries (various locations) is based on the sacred Circle Indigenous worldview and is premised on “The 1994 Confession of The Presbyterian Church in Canada (PCC)", a confession before God AND Indigenous people. The PCC not only confesses to its part in the residential school system but also its part in the judging of and suppression of Indigenous cultures and spirituality. Regarding the Injustices suffered by Indigenous people, the Confession commits, "to walking with Indigenous people in journeys to wholeness and healing together as God’s people.
“Let us then pursue what makes for peace and for mutual up-building.” Rom. 14:19
This Scripture is also reflected in the Indigenous worldview that the nations of the earth are brothers and sisters of the same Creator. And the hope is for all nations to make peace with one another for the benefit of all.
