A child can have food in the cupboard, clothes on their back and a roof over their head - and still be deeply neglected.

Some children grow up with no comfort when they are upset. No encouragement when they try. No attention when they need connection. No praise. No reassurance. No one truly noticing them.

The wounds from emotional neglect are often invisible. They do not leave bruises, but they can shape a child's self-worth, relationships, mental health and future for years to come.

Every child needs more than survival. They need to feel safe, valued, loved, heard and important.

Sometimes the most damaging neglect is the kind nobody sees.

How many children are labelled as "behind" when they are simply developing at their own pace?

Parents are under more pressure than ever to compare, measure and worry. First words. Reading. Writing. Social skills. School achievement.

But childhood is not a race.

Some children need extra support. Some face genuine challenges. And some simply need more time than others to grow, learn and gain confidence.

The problem is that we often forget there is a wide range of normal development. When every child is compared against the same timetable, differences can start to look like deficits.

Children deserve support when they need it - but they also deserve the freedom to develop without constant pressure to keep up.

This message is worth sharing because every parent, teacher and professional needs the reminder: different does not always mean behind.

Must be nice to sit on Chief and Council. I’m looking at these numbers and seeing:
​Big salaries 💰
​Free gas ⛽
​Free smokes 🚬
​Charge accounts at Cleveland’s 💳

​Must be nice to never have to worry about your bill at the till. But if there’s enough money for Council to have "charge accounts," why isn't there enough for a grandmother to charge up her groceries when she’s short? Why can’t the youth get help with gas to get to work?

​We pay for their "extras" while we do without. Does that sound fair to you? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️
