CALL to YOUTH! Regina’s FARE-FREE Transit program for high school students is up for renewal this month on MAY 27 by city council 🚍🚏

Share your voice at the YOUTH TRANSIT meeting & art party:
Thursday, May 14th
⏰ 5 - 7:30 PM
🏬 Community Heritage Association (1770 Halifax St)

CAN’T ATTEND? Help us SEND a video to city council by emailing a 30-60 second video, sharing why you believe free transit for youth (14-18) is a benefit to Regina to [email protected] & SIGN the Petition: www.change.org/p/fare-free-youth-transit-petition

Examples of Some Benefits 🌱:
ACCESSIBILITY: Free-fare increases accessibility to youth with low/fixed incomes who are limited to move around in the city in order to access services or opportunities to engage in community events.
HEALTH & SAFETY: Fare-free transit promotes walking residents (less cars = less accidents), while not getting stranded without fare as a youth (especially at night) in addition to buses providing shelter from extreme weather (cold & heat).
SUSTAINABILITY: Reduced fares can increase ridership and frequency of use, shifting transit routines from cars to public transit long-term. Less single-use cars on the road also means less greenhouse gases (like CO2) Regina will emit in total.
TOURISM & DEVELOPMENT: Investing in a fare-free transit system is a major selling point to tourists visiting (and thinking about making Regina their home), as well as residents to redirect fare costs to contribute into local businesses.

It's Transit Worker Appreciation Day! We'd like to take the opportunity to recognize the dedication and professionalism of the folks who keep Regina moving.

From early mornings to late evenings, our transit team plays an essential role in connecting residents to work, school, appointments and community activities.

It takes a village! Mechanics, service workers, dispatchers, planners, supervisors, administrative staff and of course operators work together to keep buses moving, routes operating and riders supported every day.

Thank you to the transit staff who show up everyday to support safe, reliable service for our community!

The City of Regina is considering a possible 10% increase to transit fares — and this decision would have serious consequences for our community.

A fare hike of this size would disproportionately harm youth, seniors, low-income residents, people with disabilities, and essential workers who rely on public transit every day to get to school, work, medical appointments, and basic services. When fares go up, people are forced to make impossible choices between transportation and necessities like food, rent, and utilities.

Public transit is not a luxury — it’s a public service. Increasing fares during a cost-of-living crisis only deepens inequality, reduces access to opportunity, and pushes people further into financial strain. Higher fares also discourage ridership, which ultimately hurts the long-term sustainability of our transit system.

This is why we’re taking action.

There a petition up to show them who really uses the busses and why we don’t want this to damage our “affordable city” anymore.

Send Regina City Council a Letter Today: NO 10% TRANSIT HIKE! Regina Transit is experiencing the highest ridership in its history. Nearly 9 million rides this year. A 20% increase in just two years. Riders are doing their part: reducing congestion, lowering emissions, and making this city work. Desp...

A 10% fare increase to public transit may sound small on paper, but for many people in Regina it’s the difference between getting to work, school, medical appointments, or not getting there at all.

Transit users include youth, seniors, disabled riders, low-income workers, students, and people who rely on the bus as their only option. A 10% hike means higher monthly costs, harder choices, and more barriers to basic mobility in a city that already struggles with accessibility and affordability.

Public transit is not a luxury; it’s an essential service. Raising fares pushes people further into financial stress, limits independence, and disproportionately impacts those who are already stretched thin.

I’ll be attending the Transit Townhall on January 24 at Westminster Church (3025 13th Ave) to stand up for accessible, affordable, and reliable transit in our community.

Transit isn’t a luxury; it’s a lifeline. It’s how people get to work, school, medical appointments, groceries, and community. Decisions about transit affect real lives, and our voices deserve to be heard.

If transit has ever helped you, or if cuts, fare increases, or service changes would hurt you; I encourage you to come out, listen, and be part of the conversation. Community matters, and so does showing up. 🚌✊
