Every year since 1951, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) has hosted Mental Health Week in the first full week of May. This year, CMHA Mental Health Week will be held from May 4th to 10th.

This year’s theme is “Come Together, Canada: Stronger connections, better mental health.” This year’s campaign focuses on combating loneliness and strengthening community belonging through small, everyday actions of connections. It highlights the essential role of social connection in mental well-being.

The CMHA Mental Health Week website (https://cmha.ca/mental-health-week/) includes toolkits of information and resources for schools, workplaces, and day-to-day interactions (https://cmha.ca/mental-health-week/toolkits/).

Emergency Preparedness Week is May 3 to 9, 2026, with the theme "Be Prepared. Know Your Risks." This national initiative is led by Public Safety Canada and serves as a reminder to ensure that you have a plan in place to keep yourself, your family, and your community safe during an emergency.

You can take these steps to prepare for emergency situations beyond your control.

- Know the risks—Focus on hazards specific to your area.
- Make a plan—Involve your family, so everyone knows what to do.
- Get an emergency kit—Include items that would be necessary without access to power or water.

To receive emergency alerts via phone, text, or email from the City of Regina regarding threats to safety, such as evacuations, tornadoes, and major utility issues, register online at https://regina.ca/notifynow.

You can also download the Sask Alert app to receive emergency notifications from the provincial government.

For more information on emergency planning, including the types of hazards to prepare for and tips on what to include in your emergency kit, visit the Emergency Preparedness section of the Government of Canada website at https://canada.ca/get-prepared

Today, the Saskatchewan Indigenous Cultural Centre honours the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people.

On Red Dress Day, we honour them through our ceremonies and prayers. We remember them through our languages, our teachings, and our ways of life. We remember by speaking their names, carrying their stories, and holding them in our thoughts and prayers.

Our languages carry these stories. Our cultures carry the strength to remember.
We continue this work through our mission, to protect, preserve and promote cultures and languages of the First Nations people of Saskatchewan, so future generations remember, honour, and carry these truths forward.

The 2026-2027 school year is shaping up to be an exciting one, filled with music, growth, and great experiences in band!

As we look ahead to next year, there will be some changes to the elementary band delivery model. With the opening of the MusicCentre@Dieppe in September, all band classes will take place at the Music Centre. Students will participate in band for one half day each week, providing a unique opportunity to learn and grow in a specialized music environment.

Schools will ensure that students attending the Music Centre do not miss literacy or numeracy instruction. Schedules will be developed to protect these core learning areas.

How to Register:
Families may complete registration online or by paper copy.

- Access the online registration form using the link below. A paper copy of the registration form is available at the school office.
- We look forward to an exciting year of music, growth, and great experiences in band!

May is Asian Heritage Month. It acknowledges the long and rich history of Asian Canadians and their contributions to Canada. It also provides an opportunity for all Canadians to learn about and celebrate the vibrant culture and accomplishments of Asian-Canadian citizens and communities.

Asian Canadian Heritage Month has been celebrated across Canada since the 1990s. In December 2001, the Senate of Canada adopted a motion proposed by Senator Vivienne Poy to officially designate May as Asian Canadian Heritage Month in Canada. In May 2002, the Government of Canada signed an official declaration to designate May as Asian Canadian Heritage Month.

May has been proclaimed Early Childhood Education Month in Saskatchewan. This month reminds us that positive experiences for young children continue to help them throughout their lives with quality early years programs and initiatives.

May 13th is Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day. Thank you to all the amazing and hard-working Early Childhood Educators who teach, support, and build strong relationships with children and their families! You make a positive difference in the futures of our youngest students by helping to build the foundation for a successful education and the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical well-being of children.

Earth Day is tomorrow! Celebrated annually on April 22nd, Earth Day seeks to highlight and promote efforts dedicated to the protection of the environment and natural resources. It is a day observed by over one billion people around the world in over 193 countries, including Canada!

This year’s theme is “Our power, Our planet,” which focuses on renewable resources. Earth Day Canada is promoting "conscious consumption," encouraging consumers to reduce waste by buying less and opting for durable, repairable items.

Help protect our earth!
