In A New Blueprint for Government (Kevin G. Lynch & James R. Mitchell), which we recently explored at IPAC Saskatchewan, leadership is described as the “magic sauce” for meaningful government reform.

That idea is hard to ignore, because leadership scarcity is not abstract. It is showing up in real ways across the public sector, including here in Saskatchewan.

At a time when expectations are rising and outcomes are under increasing scrutiny, leadership can’t be purely administrative. It must be courageous, accountable, and focused on impact.

We need leaders who empower teams, encourage fearless policy advice, and are willing to make tough decisions in the public interest, bridging the gap between policy and real outcomes.

This shifts the conversation from systems to something more personal.

What kind of leader do you need to become?

We want to thank our sponsors for this event- for our gift basket. Congratulations to who won this amazing gift.

Special thank you to who provided us free space to use. They also went above and beyond to provide us audio-visual, enabling our book's co-author- Jim Mitchell to join in.

We are also grateful to the University of Regina's printing press who offered a 20% discount on the purchase of the book to those who registered to be a part of the reading. That was helpful in making the book more accessible.

Supports like these are our reminders that it truly takes multiple stakeholders to make any vision come true.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Read and Relate event. Your presence and engagement truly made it an eventful time.

And we do appreciate Jim Mitchell for his time and insightful conversations. Truly the conversations around the book was timely. And the mix of experiences was a plus which further enriched the conversations.

Here are key themes we discussed:
- Rebalancing power between PMO, Cabinet, ministers, Parliament and the Public Service
- Productivity is a national emergency, both in the private sector and inside government itself
- Public service has grown by 40%+ since 2015 but delivers worse outcomes
- There is a need to restore fearless policy advice and a culture of excellence
- Sovereignty and defence are urgent priorities in a turbulent geopolitical era
- Canada can learn from Westminster reforms in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand
- Leadership is the 'magic sauce' to make all these right, and it is in short supply

To those who attended, feel free to add to the list in the comments. We invite everyone to share their perspectives on these highlighted issues. Would you agree? Why or why not?

We look forward to continuing the conversation here. TGIF😁
