Parker Thompson, an 18-year old race car driver from Red Deer, Alberta has entered his third year with his distracted driving campaign in partner with Global Traffic Group. The purpose of Drive to Stay Alive is to educate elementary to high school students about the dangers of distracted driving. Parker Thompson is on a mission to travel across North America to provide his peers with the best prac
tices on staying focused when they get behind the wheel. The goal of Drive To Stay Alive campaign is to start minimizing the amount of distracted driving currently taking place on Alberta roads. Eventually Thompson wants to make distracted driving a thing of the past in Canada.
“In racing, I know that taking my attention off the track for even a second can have serious consequences, and it’s no different when driving on our roads and highways. By educating a new generation of Albertans about the dangers of distracted driving, we can prevent a lot of collisions before they happen.”

Research indicates that driver distractions contribute to 20 to 30 per cent of all collisions and that distracted drivers are three times more likely to be involved in a collision than attentive drivers. Global Traffic Group and Parker Thompson have partnered to help raise awareness on the dangers of Distracted Driving. Cell phone use, texting, applying makeup, reading newspapers and brushing teeth are normal day-to-day activities that are consequence free unless you are behind the wheel. All of these distractions increase the probability of getting into a collision and worse yet a life altering situation. Parker and Global Traffic are proud to work collaboratively to deliver a strong don’t drive distracted message that supports safe roads and safe communities in Alberta and across the Country.
“Global Traffic Group crossed paths with 18-year-old racecar driver Parker Thompson when his Don’t Drive Distracted campaign was covered in a local newspaper. When Parker is not racing around a track at 240 km/hr, he is speaking up about the dangers of Distracted Driving. Parker’s message is strong and very sincere. Global Traffic Group is very proud to partner with Parker in his quest to defeat Distracted driving in Alberta and across the Country.”
