Red Deer Firefighters Pipes and Drums

“Whatever people are willing to tolerate” for some reason makes me think of the phrase “we’ve always done it this way.”

Anybody who gives a damn about organizational culture knows that phrase is a breeding ground for problems and can be dangerous if left unchecked.

Ask yourself what are you willing to tolerate

Will you show up not knowing the music, fighting your instrument?

OR will you show up prepared, ready to perform?

Pipes and Drums …

By the center …

QUICK MARCH!

Excellent photos by Andrew Mackay Photography from the Fallen Firefighters Memorial last month, Sunday, September 13th at city hall.

The band turned out eleven members and were honoured to play for our fallen firefighters. 🇨🇦

We were delighted to kit out our Pipe Sgt, Connor as our Drum Major. Another first for our group!
We hope to continue featuring our Drum Major at future band events. Connor did a phenomenal job at leading the band.

Being a Drum Major is not only about looking incredible, although it’s hard not to admire the feather bonnet and piper’s plaid! Their role includes directing the pipes and drums on parade, using verbal commands and use of their mace to communicate signals to the band.
They are also responsible for completing band uniform inspection to ensure we are all looking our best.

When a Drum Major is leading, the command to step off on parade is “By the center”, as the band is dressing off of the DM positioned in the front center.

We look forward to attending this ceremony again. Thank You to our Red Deer Firefighters for your dedicated service to our community.
