Smiles Thru Lindsey Foundation Promoting mental health awareness through programs and events in honour of Lindsey More. Lindsey More was a beautiful person inside and out.

Her contagious laugh, charming and outgoing personality, big heart and warm smile hid something 1in 5 Canadians battle within any given year, mental illness.*

September 20th, 2015 was a day that forever changed the lives of those close to Lindsey. After battling with depression from her late teen years Lindsey took her own life. It was a shock to everyone, especially to those who did not know that she was fighting with this illness, even some of those who knew did not understand as she did not fit the description of what we are told someone with depression should have. Anyone who knew Lindsey knew her as someone who would do anything to make sure everyone was happy and not alone and their memories of her are full of love, laughter and adventure. Humour and passion for helping others hid the sadness that eventually took over her mind. Before Lindsey's passing she had spoken to her parents about what she was going through, they did everything they could with what they knew so they could get Lindsey help, but for her it was a frustrating process especially when it came to the financial side of it. While mental illness accounts for more than 10% of the burden of disease in Canada, it receives just 7% of health care dollars and almost a third of Canadians who seek mental health care report that their needs are unmet or partially met. The rate is even higher for children and youth.*

After the sudden passing of a friend who also took his life a year before, Lindsey was determined to make a change. She had discussed with her Dad, Rick, to start a foundation that would raise money to help children, teens and young adults who are fighting mental illness but do not have the financial support to get the proper help needed. Unfortunately Lindsey did not live to see her foundation come to life, but her love for helping others will continue even though she is not with us. Just weeks after losing Lindsey, her parents made a promise to make Lindsey's dream of helping others fight this illness come true and with the help of many others they started the Smiles Thru Lindsey Foundation. For any questions or inquires please feel free to send a message through this page and we will answer you as soon as possible. Though she is gone, her smile will carry on.

Why the Yellow Bucket? 💛

If you’ve ever wondered where the name Yellow Bucket Bonspiel came from, it started with a story about Lindsey.

Years ago, Lindsey was at a fun bonspiel when she put a yellow bucket on her head, hit the dance floor and somehow got everyone to follow her, leading one big dance around the room. 😂 That was Lindsey.

After we lost her, her best friend shared that story in Lindsey’s eulogy.

One day, her mom was rereading the eulogy and had just read the part about the yellow bucket when, completely coincidentally, her cousin, Sarah, sent her this photo.

There she was. 💛

Lindsey, with that yellow bucket on her head and the biggest smile on her face.

That moment became the inspiration for the Yellow Bucket Bonspiel—a fundraiser created in Lindsey’s memory that brought people together through curling, laughter and a cause that means everything to our family.

We held our last YBB in 2018.

And now, after 8 years, we’re bringing it back. 🥌💛

This October 24, the Yellow Bucket Bonspiel returns to the Sylvan Lake Curling Club as Rocktober Fest, with funds raised helping support youth mental health in our community.

So when you see that yellow bucket, know that it’s more than a logo or a theme.

It’s Lindsey. It’s a memory. And it’s our why. 💛💜

11 years without Lindsey. 💜

It’s hard to believe eleven years have passed since we lost our beautiful Lindsey. Eleven years of birthdays, holidays, celebrations, milestones and everyday moments she should have been here for. We miss her smile, her laugh, her presence… and all the memories we never got the chance to make with her.

Out of our heartbreak came a promise: to share Lindsey’s story, bring awareness to youth mental health, and do whatever we could to help prevent another family from experiencing this kind of loss.

Lindsey’s passing also helped spark a coalition of people in Central Alberta determined to better support vulnerable children and youth, a collaboration that would eventually become the Central Alberta CAC and lead to the creation of the Sheldon Kennedy Centre of Excellence in Red Deer.

Today, on the second floor of that very building, is the Lindsey More Youth Mental Health and Addiction Hub, where incredible staff provide support and hope to some of the most vulnerable youth in our community. Seeing Lindsey’s name and legacy woven into what grew from such a devastating loss means more to our family than we can put into words.

None of this would have been possible without all of you. To everyone who has volunteered, donated, sponsored, attended a fundraiser, shared Lindsey’s story or poured your heart into Smiles Thru Lindsey over the years — thank you. 💜 We truly could not have done this without you.

We would give anything to have Lindsey here. Nothing can replace the life she should have lived or the years our family has missed with her. But we are incredibly proud of the legacy she has left behind.

Our hope has always been that another family won’t have to know this pain or spend a lifetime missing the moments they should have had with someone they love.

For Lindsey. Always. 💜

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever making a difference.
