👶 A Little Mystery from 1985 👶

While looking through old Auxiliary papers, we came across a 1985 Cariboo Observer Letter to the Editor from the G.R. Baker Hospital Administrator about the importance of the proper use of baby car seats. Accompanying the letter was a photo of a baby named Chelsea.

That's all we know!

We're guessing she was born at G.R. Baker Hospital, making her one of our "Baker Babies." And if there's one thing we know, it's that we'll always have a special place in our hearts for Baker Babies, no matter how old they are now. 💙

If Chelsea was a newborn at the time, she would be about 41 years old today.

Rose Marie was a past member of the Auxiliary and was highly regarded by those who knew her. Our sincere condolences to her family and friends. What a beautiful tribute her grandchildren wrote in her obituary. Rest in peace, Rose Marie.

🌟 MEET-A-MEMBER MONDAY 🌟
Featuring Lorene McKernan

This week we're pleased to introduce Lorene McKernan, who joined the Auxiliary in June 2026 and has already become a valued member of our team!

After seeing a call for volunteers on the Auxiliary page, Lorene decided to put in an application. She had been looking for something meaningful and social to become involved in and decided the Auxiliary would be a perfect fit.

The hospital is a place she feels very comfortable being, having worked as a care aide for many years. Her compassion and caring nature were evident from day one and continue to shine through in her volunteer work.

A true people person, and self described as chatty, Lorene enjoys helping patients get their TVs connected so they can enjoy a little entertainment during their hospital stay. While carrying out her volunteer duties, she takes time to interact with patients, brighten their day, and help make their time in hospital a little easier.

One particularly memorable experience came when Lorene was invited by new parents into the maternity room to meet their brand-new Baker Baby, just hours old. It was a special moment and a thrill she won't soon forget.

Lorene is currently learning the ropes in the Gift Shop and says she's having a wonderful time. She has quickly become a valued member of our Auxiliary family.

Welcome, Lorene! And Lorene, that vest looks fantastic on you. It suits you perfectly! 💙

Thank You, McFrugal’s!
We received a thoughtful donation this week from McFrugal’s Discount Outlet & Outdoors Store. Their manager, Jeannine, found herself with extra stuffies and chose to share them with us.
It is always touching when local businesses in Quesnel think of our Auxiliary, whether it’s a planned donation or something like this.

Here’s Jeannine and our Auxiliary Member Melodie Twemlow, smiling with the bag of donated stuffies that will soon be bringing joy — maybe included in our baby gifts, or perhaps handed out during the annual Auxiliary Christmas Morning Santa Parade at the hospital.
