Beyond Speaking Up: How Family Councils Turn Individual Voices into Collective Change

Many families in long-term care hesitate to speak up because they worry it could affect the care of someone they love. But families don’t have to navigate those concerns alone.

In our recent session, Karen Tyrell of Dementia Solutions and Lisa Dawson, President of ILTCCABC, explored how Family Councils can provide a safe, collaborative way for families, residents, and care teams to work together — turning individual concerns into positive, lasting change.

The session also highlighted practical resources for long-term care teams and resident care partners.

📣 Research Participants Needed: Understanding Older Men’s Spousal Caregiving

ILTCCABC is pleased to share a research opportunity from the University of British Columbia (UBC) exploring the experiences of older men who provide care for a spouse or partner.

The study aims to better understand how aging, caregiving, masculinities and mental health intersect. The findings will also help inform the development of a support group program for older male spousal caregivers.

You may be eligible to participate if you are a man aged 65+ living in Canada and currently caring for a spouse or partner living in the community, assisted living or long-term care.

Participants will be invited to share their caregiving experiences through photographs and a Zoom or in-person interview. An honorarium is available for participants who complete the interview.
