Last but certainly not least, we have a first year member who keeps everyone on their toes, never knowing what will come out of his mouth or what kind of crazy idea he has! He also happens to be our only cloverbud member.

My name is Kain McDonald and this is my steer Bullseye. This is my first year in 4-H. Last year you may have seen me around the fair with my pet chick and duck. I am looking forward to leading my steer around this year! We think my steer will weigh 1300lbs come July.

We have limited non-black steers this year, so here we have the 2nd of 2 red steers we have in the club with his owner Avery Purkess!

My name is Avery Purkess and this is my third year in 4-H. This is my steer Blue. His favourite food is corn and barley. I think his estimated finishing weight will be 1250lbs. With the money I get from him I want to put it towards training my new horse. I am really excited for the fair this year and I hope to see you there.

Back onto the 2nd of the Lambert girls, and to another one of our first year members. We think Paityn is doing awesome this year!

Hi, my name is Paityn Lambert and I am 9 years old this will be my 1st year in 4H as part of the Portage 4H beef club. My steer’s name is Zach and he is a Simmental/Angus Cross Steer and I have been feeding him corn and prepared feed.
At the time of the fair my steer should way about 1400lbs.
I have watched my sister and cousins the last few years with 4H and their steers and it has piqued my interest, and I have learned a lot about steers this year with my own, that it takes a lot to grow a good steer.
I know my steer will be sure to makes some tasty burgers and steaks.
Please come out to the Portage Fair to support your local 4Hers.
