With the Ontario provincial election fast approaching, June 2, ACO is recommending ACO members (and heritage supporters) ask our local candidates questions that are important in the conservation of Ontario's
heritage.

1. It is considerably faster, cheaper and greener to modify existing
buildings than it is to build new. How will you support adaptation of redundant schools, churches and public buildings to quickly and
comparatively inexpensively create affordable housing?

2. Has your party got any energy incentives to ensure the same money for restoration of existing windows and doors as it does for replacement of same?

3. Special skills and knowledge are needed to adapt and repair older buildings. How will you support specialty trades education and apprenticeship programs?

4. Many of our pre-1940 buildings are demolished to accommodate new buildings. More than 50% of demolished material which goes to the landfill can be recycled and reused. Since our landfills will be out of space in 25 years, if elected, what will your Party do to insist that if a building needs to be demolished all of its material will be reused?

5. Ontario Place is an important venue: our provincial gem . How will you ensure the heritage aspects of its buildings and landscapes are retained and enhanced?

Ask our local candidates where they stand on the conservation of
heritage in our riding!

As a charitable organization, any communication that has ACO,s name on it, cannot endorse a political party and as such are not allowed to be partisan. ACO can promote a policy but not a candidate.
