OPERATION CATNIP NEEDS A NEW RECOVERY SPACE
A safe place for cats today helps create a future with fewer homeless cats tomorrow.
Operation Catnip Peterborough is a volunteer-run grassroots organization serving Peterborough and surrounding communities through Trap-Neuter-Return-Maintain (TNRM) and colony management.
Since 2013, our volunteers have helped more than 2,700 feral and abandoned cats by preventing unwanted litters, providing veterinary care, and reducing suffering. For over five years, we have had a dedicated pre- and post-operative recovery space for cats undergoing spay/neuter surgery. Unfortunately, we must leave our current location by October 15, 2026, and urgently need a new space.
What We're Looking For
A recovery space in Peterborough or nearby, such as:
Finished basement
Temperature-controlled garage or shed
Business, veterinary, or workplace space
Other suitable indoor area
Preferred features:
Temperature control
Running water
Space for carriers and humane traps
Storage for food and medications
Access twice daily for volunteer care
Why It Matters
Without TNRM, feral and abandoned cats face hunger, injury, disease, harsh weather, and ongoing reproduction. Cats that can be socialized are placed with adoption partners, including LAWS and ARK, to help them find loving homes. Cats that remain feral are returned to dedicated caregivers after recovery. Without a suitable recovery space, Operation Catnip may have to suspend TNRM operations, leaving vulnerable cats without help when they need it most. After helping thousands of cats over the past 13 years, we do not want to stop now.
