When you are ready and feel safe....

October 11th is National Coming Out Day! Today is a day to celebrate those folks who have come out to people in their life, but also a day to celebrate and send love to those who have yet to come out or who may never come out to people close to them.

Everyone's exploration of their identity and s*xuality happens at different paces- everyone has the ability to choose if they come out, when they come out, who they come out to, and how they do so. You deserve to come out in a way that feels safe and right to you, not to anyone else.

For those who are not out, whether that's for safety reasons, or you're still on your journey of self-discovery: your place in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community is still just as valid as those who have come out. We hope that one day you have a found family who will support and accept you wholeheartedly, no questions asked. On a larger scale, we also hope that we're all able to enact enough social change that we have a fully accepting culture, so that coming out is no longer something that's dangerous for folks to do.

Happy International Coming Out Day! 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

Today is a beautiful reminder to celebrate the courage it takes for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals to live their truth.

To anyone who isn't ready or safe to come out yet: your identity is still entirely valid. Your safety comes first.

Here at Durham Alliance Outreach, Club 717 and Pride Durham, we are proud to be a safer space in the community and we will continue to celebrate our wonderful community in Durham Region!
