Thank you to everyone who joined us at our 2026 Annual General Meeting last night at

Our AGM provides an opportunity to reflect on the past year, celebrate the progress being made in downtown Peterborough, and look ahead to the future of our organization.

We were honoured to hear remarks from Peterborough Police Chief Stuart Betts and Mayor Jeff Leal, who shared their perspectives on the importance of a vibrant, safe, and thriving downtown core.

We were also pleased to introduce our Board of Directors for the 2027–2030 term. With 8 nominations received for the Board of Directors, all positions are filled and confirmed by acclamation. These individuals will help guide our organization over the 2027-2030 term.

During the evening, we also took time to recognize and thank Sacha Lai-Svirk for her many years of dedicated service and leadership at the Peterborough DBIA. Sacha is a true downtown champion whose contributions have helped shape many of the initiatives, partnerships, and successes that have strengthened downtown Peterborough, and we are grateful for the lasting impact she has made on our organization and community.

A sincere thank you to our members, Board of Directors, community partners, and supporters who continue to invest their time, ideas, and energy into downtown Peterborough. Your engagement helps make our downtown a place where businesses can succeed and our community can thrive.

We would also like to recognize our outgoing Board members for their dedication and service, and thank the team at Market Hall for hosting us!

As we celebrate our 45th anniversary this year, we're proud of how far we've come and excited for what lies ahead. Here's to another year of collaboration, growth, and celebrating everything that makes downtown Peterborough special.

🅿 Share Your Perspective. Downtown Parking Survey Now Open! 📝

The City is looking for feedback on the downtown parking experience from those who use it most.

The survey is now open at connectptbo.ca/parkingsurvey, and invites input on parking meters, payment options (including the HotSpot app), signage, enforcement, and overall ease of use in the downtown core.

Your feedback helps the City better understand how parking impacts business operations, customer access, and the overall visitor experience in order to inform where improvements can support a more accessible and vibrant downtown.

🗓️ The survey will close on Friday, June 26, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. To visit the survey, you can also visit the link in our bio!

Great events don’t just happen. They are intentionally built by the collaborations between passionate organizers, local venues, artists, and community support.

We were proud to support for their event "The Deep End on Water Street". Their event was an incredible multi-venue experience that transformed downtown Peterborough into a connected hub of beautiful sound, art, and energy.

From vinyl DJs at to high-energy sets at and live electronica at , each space was transformed to bring it's own distinct atmosphere. They are creating something truly special here.

This is what’s possible when local organizers are empowered to bring bold, creative experiences to downtown Peterborough. Beyond hosting our own roster of seasonal and annual events, we provide support to local community organizers that create experiences which bring foot traffic, cultural energy and more reasons to explore and spend time in our core. When we invest in community events, we create more opportunities for people to explore, connect, and experience downtown in new ways.

This event was made possible in part through our Community Event Support Grant, which helps bring projects like this to life in downtown Peterborough.

Do you have an idea you have been sitting on, and are thinking about hosting an event downtown?

Our next grant intake deadline will be August 31, 2026 for events taking place between October 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027

All applications are reviewed by the DBIA Board following the submission deadline. Applicants must provide a detailed event budget for consideration.

Downtowns are the beating heart of any city but the truth is that they are more than just places with historic buildings to visit or admire. They’re incredibly important economic engines.

During Economic Development Week, we're recognizing the very critical role downtown Peterborough plays in driving local growth. From small businesses and entrepreneurs to arts, culture, and events, our downtown fuels job creation, attracts investment, and keeps our community vibrant year-round.

When you support a downtown business, you’re not just making a purchase. You’re contributing to a much stronger local economy, supporting livelihoods, and contributing to a more connected and resilient city.

At The DBIA we are proud to champion the people and places that make downtown Peterborough a hub of opportunity and innovation.

Help shape the future of arts, culture, and creativity in our community 🎭 This is your moment to weigh in.

The City of Peterborough is currently developing a new Municipal Cultural Plan which will be a roadmap that guides how arts & culture will be supported, funded, and experienced over the next 10 years.

This work will influence everything from public art and placemaking, events and festivals, to how we grow cultural tourism in our city.

Whether you’re a business owner, event organizer, artist or community member of any kind - your perspective deeply matters.

If you have not had the chance to fill it out yet or attend any of the sessions, the survey takes just 5–10 minutes and responses will help shape future investments, partnerships, and priorities

The survey will be open until May 4.

We encourage our community to take a moment and share your voice.

At the Conference in (“Main Streets in Bloom”), our Director had the opportunity to join in a roundtable discussion with BIA leaders from across the province alongside the Honourable - the Associate Minister of Small Business.

These are the moments that help connect policy to place, where voices on the ground are heard, and where meaningful dialogue helps turn ideas into shared solutions.

This is where the collective work of supporting Ontario’s main streets and small businesses is strengthened because we are always stronger together. From local advocacy to on-the-ground activation, BIAs across the province, the country and beyond play a critical role in building vibrant and resilient downtown communities.

We’re grateful to the OBIAA for convening these important discussions, and to Minister Tangri for taking the time to listen and engage directly with BIA leaders from across Ontario.

Strong main streets don’t happen by accident. They happen through collaboration, advocacy, and consistent support for the small businesses that bring our communities to life.
