South Okanagan Council of Canadians were at Cherry Lane Mall with cards, envelopes and ideas to create sardonic Greeting Cards to Prime Minister Carney and other lawmakers.

People wrote 50 cards on December 13th to tell elected leaders to take bold social, climate and environmental action. We hope leaders get the point-get active!

People wrote for a reduction in pollution, for Guaranteed Basic Income, for forest protection and more.

South Okanagan Council of Canadians recent activities. People, Planet and Democracy: Our hearts are united in action as we stand for the well-being of the people of the South Okanagan and beyond.
Last week the South Okanagan Council of Canadians joined 40 others at the potential site of the Heart & Hearth project. We came together for our neighbours who need shelter, and shared hope and common goals.
Even though the initiative did not get approved, we are still committed to working for better solutions to Penticton's homelessness.

Last week, we got the sad news that a tiny home community was not being approved in Penticton, but we care about all the people here who are sleeping rough.
Shelter is a human right. Let's come together to discuss what next steps look like. Join us for a friendly meeting on Saturday, Dec 6th, 1:00 pm, at the Oasis United Church, 2964 Skaha Lake Road (at Green Avenue) Penticton.

South Okanagan Council of Canadians visited striking postal workers to support their job action. The union has offered restructuring solutions that have been rejected by management, leading to unnecessary deficits. Here's the proposal:

Thanks to all who came out and to the organizers who led the Draw the Line event.

Almost 100 people rallied for the 5 demands: climate justice, peace, inclusion, indigenous rights, and real democracy. Penticton saw people mobilizing, a parade from Gyro Park to Veteran's Park for songs and stories. We collaborated with Penticton4Palestine and made new connections. We are All in this Together and will keep working.

Council of Canadians South Okanagan chapter was a main organizer of this event.
"Climate change is human caused and the major culprits are oil, gas, and coal. We demand Canada end all fossil fuel subsidies, kick fossil fuel companies and their lobbyists out of politics, make polluters pay, invest in a Youth Climate Corps and publicly-owned East-West electricity grid." Penticton organizer Lori Goldman of First Things First Okanagan said in a statement.

Canadians in most major cities demonstrated Saturday against elements of the Liberal government’s agenda, including Prime Minister Mark Carney’s support for new fossil fuel projects and expected public service cuts.
