❓ Why didn’t WE post that?

Based on the feedback and comments we regularly receive, we think it’s time to step back and remind the community of the role Crime Stoppers plays in making Renfrew County safer.

🚫 Renfrew County Crime Stoppers is not part of the police, is not part of the government, and 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆. We do not post about every media release we receive from the police, we typically redact the names of individuals named in those media releases, and we don’t always post the “results” of a police investigation. We’re not protecting criminals, and we’re not trying to keep information from the public.

❌ Crime Stoppers 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 take credit for an arrest, a drug bust, property recovered, etc., because it could place the anonymous tipster at risk, and sharing details of the investigation is not our role.

✅ So when 𝘿𝙊 we post? Crime Stoppers will reach out to the community 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲. We receive information directly from our law enforcement partners, and we strive to share that information with the community 𝗮𝘀 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 to encourage someone who knows something to come forward. 📲

🚔 We know there are many reasons why people don’t want to call the police, which is why Crime Stoppers allows you to submit a tip 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗻𝘆𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗹𝘆. 🤫 Your tip is provided to investigators, but no one will ever know it was you that provided it.

🤝 Renfrew County Crime Stoppers is entirely volunteer-run, and is a registered not-for-profit charity. We’re sorry if we’re slow getting information out, and we’re sorry if you’re looking for information we’re not sharing, but we hope you can find it from a reputable news media source.

But we hope you’ll follow along anyways. Because community safety is everyone’s responsibility, and together we can make Renfrew County a safer place to live, work and play. 😊
