🤎 Keeping the Old Ways Alive 🤎
And just like that, our 4-Day Traditional Moose Hide Tanning Workshop with Tina has come to a close! Today was an emotional, beautiful, and hard-working final day as we finished up with soaking, drying, scraping and smoking our hide.
Over the last four days at Marten Lake, we didn't just learn a skill we connected with tradition, community, and the land. From the heavy labor of framing, fleshing, graining, and scraping to the physical and repetitive work of wringing and softening, every participant poured their absolute heart into this process.
A massive, heartfelt thank you to our incredible Knowledge Keeper, Tina Laboucan, for guiding us with patience, wisdom, and deep traditional knowledge every single step of the way. And thank you to the dedicated participants who joined us for this immersive journey—you all worked so hard, and seeing everyone leave with their own piece of smoked hide is incredibly rewarding.
Our hands are tired, our hearts are completely full, and the old ways are very much alive. ✨
Thanks again MOMS CFS and Dreamcatcher Achievement Program for sponsoring this beautiful course.
