Samaritan House Ottawa is adding a THIRD RESIDENCE! This new house will significantly increase our capacity to provide housing and vital resources to Ottawa's refugee population. While preparations are still ongoing, we hope to begin moving participants into the new house by August!

Samaritan House aims to uphold the human dignity of every refugee, and provide community to our most vulnerable populations. We treasure each person we encounter in our quest to serve the vulnerable and accord them the respect they deserve, affirming their inherent worth as members of the human family. So many refugee claimants experience homelessness upon their arrival in Canada, and this new residence will make a significant impact in our ability to house our neighbours.

Samaritan House is only able to grow and support more refugee claimants because of the support and help we receive from our community - that's YOU. When you hit the like button, leave a comment, or share our posts, you are helping us extend our reach so more of our neighbours can learn about our work. Thank you!

Refugee youth have important knowledge and insights to share about what it is like to arrive and settle in Canada. Yet their voices are often missing from research. This means that the programs, policies, and services intended to support them often miss the mark. The objective of this study is to learn directly from refugee youth (age 10 - 22) in Ottawa about their experiences of arriving and settling in Canada, and to use their insights to help improve programs, services, and policies that affect their lives. This project centres refugee youth as experts in their own lives through a research method called Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR), where they are engaged as leaders in the research process itself.

Youth participation will involve three sessions held in Ottawa over July, and participants will receive a $20 honorarium per session attended. Through three creative and arts-based activities, young people will have a chance to talk about their post-arrival experiences.

A virtual information event will take place on Saturday, May 30th at 2:00 PM. Any interested youth located in Ottawa and ages 10-22 are encouraged to attend with their parents/guardians to learn more about the project and how they can participate.

Please visit bit.ly/4tMfjxc to register for the information session!

This study is conducted in partnership with Stepstone House, Carlton University, University of Ottawa, and University of Victoria.

Happy Mother's Day

TODAY WE -

Celebrate: the love of God revealed through great moms, the women who inspire us in their role as moms in our community, and all the people we call mom/grandma in our lives.

Morn: the mom's we've lost, the role of mom that we wanted to be but never got to be, the children we've lost, and the challenges of motherhood (DM us, or reach out if you would like a prayer of lament and morning).

Thank: the incredible women that gave us birth, that nurtured us as moms, that played the role of mom in our lives, and the women who have loved us unconditionally.
