On being recognized for his work, Shawn Menard said: “This is the best award I have ever received!” Hear why public toilets in our parks (and elsewhere!) are needed; and then urge your councillor to follow this example. 🌍🚽Public restrooms work best when they’re built for everyone

Mothers with babies, the elderly, people with disabilities, women who need more stalls to cut wait times, and anyone managing health conditions—all deserve safe, clean access.

When we design for inclusion, no one is locked out of public spaces. Every stall, every sign, every detail matters.

Let’s make clean, accessible toilets the standard—not the exception.

Did you know some public toilets in Tokyo are so well-designed that people take tours to see them? 🚻

Kaori Suzuki shares what makes Tokyo’s approach different - from beautiful toilet design and art that may reduce vandalism, to mobile toilet trailers and smart maintenance technology.

Could Ottawa do the same?

⚾🚽 A local Ottawa baseball team is once again paying for a portable toilet because their park doesn't have a city-funded public washroom.

Tauvette Park hosts baseball, soccer, and community activities all season long, yet access to a washroom depends on whether a volunteer-run organization can afford to cover the cost.

A portable toilet costs about $350 per month, while each Ottawa ward receives only $4,500 annually for portable washrooms—enough for roughly three units across an entire ward.

When it comes to roads, sidewalks, and streetlights, we don't ask community groups to fund essential infrastructure. Why should washrooms be different?

Shouldn’t public spaces work fairly for everyone?

For 110 years, men in Saskatchewan’s legislature had a dedicated washroom, while women MLAs did not. This is a reminder that equitable washroom access matters.

GottaGo campaigns for better public toilet access in Ottawa.

Female politicians in Saskatchewan's legislature will soon have their own designated washroom after going without one for over 110 years.
