Happy Heavenly Birthday to Harriet Tubman 👑🕊
Harriet Tubman was one of the most courageous and influential figures in American history. She was born into slavery around March 6, 1822, in Dorchester County, Maryland, United States. Her birth name was Araminta Ross, but she later adopted the name Harriet after her mother. Tubman endured a harsh childhood under slavery, experiencing physical abuse and extremely difficult living conditions. Despite these hardships, she developed a strong sense of faith, resilience, and determination that would shape the rest of her life.
In 1849, Harriet Tubman made the brave decision to escape from slavery. She traveled nearly 90 miles to freedom in Pennsylvania using a secret network known as the Underground Railroad. However, freedom for herself was not enough. Tubman repeatedly returned to the South to rescue others who were still enslaved. Over the next several years, she conducted around 13 missions and helped dozens of enslaved people escape, including members of her own family. Because of her fearless leadership and success, she became known as “Moses” by those she helped to freedom.
During the American Civil War, Tubman continued to serve the cause of freedom. She worked for the Union Army as a nurse, cook, spy, and scout. One of her most remarkable achievements came in 1863, when she helped lead the Combahee River Raid, which freed more than 700 enslaved people in South Carolina. This made her one of the first women in U.S. history to lead a military expedition.
After the Civil War, Tubman dedicated her life to helping others. She became active in the women’s suffrage movement, working alongside leaders like Susan B. Anthony to advocate for women’s right to vote. Tubman also established a home for elderly and poor African Americans in Auburn, New York, showing her lifelong commitment to humanitarian work.
Harriet Tubman passed away on March 10, 1913, at about 91 years old. Today, she is remembered as a symbol of courage, freedom, and justice. Her life story represents the power of determination and selflessness. Through her bravery and leadership, Harriet Tubman helped change the course of American history and inspired generations to fight for equality and human rights.
