2026 CAHPI National Annual Conference - CONFIRMED SESSION
A Closer Look: Are You Liable if Defects Are Found After a Home Inspection?
Jaclyn Mansfield, Associate, Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP
What happens when defects are discovered after a home inspection? Could an inspector be held liable, and what factors determine responsibility? Join Jaclyn Mansfield, Associate with Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP, for an engaging and practical session that takes participants inside the legal process following a claim against a home inspector. Through a mock examination for discovery, attendees will gain valuable insight into the legal standards that govern the profession, including the standard of care expected of home inspectors and how the British Columbia courts assess inspection reports, observations, and client communications. The session will explore common causes of claims, key case law developments, and the types of questions inspectors may face when their work is challenged.
Participants will leave with a better understanding of how their actions, documentation, and testimony may be evaluated in litigation, helping them reduce risk and strengthen their professional practices. Questions and discussion are encouraged throughout this interactive presentation.
Stay tuned for more sessions as they are confirmed!
Registration will open soon.
