Alhamdulillah, we are pleased to have Vice-Chair Imam Abdullah Yousri and Past-President Imam Refaat Mohamed representing the Canadian Council of Imams at this important gathering in Australia that is bringing together mainstream Imams' councils from across the English-speaking world.

May Allah bless and accept the collective efforts of The Global Imams & Scholars Council and especially those of the hosts of this year’s retreat, the Australian National Imams Council.

As the federal government prepares to announce next steps on medical assistance in dying on Wednesday, we reiterate the position we set out earlier this year:

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗔𝗜𝗗 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆.

Canadians experiencing mental illness deserve treatment, hope, dignity, community and meaningful support, not a system in which death becomes an option because adequate care was unavailable.

Our position is grounded in evidence, serious clinical and ethical concerns, and compassion for vulnerable Canadians.

Our earlier joint statement was supported by more than 700 Muslim physicians, healthcare professionals, mental health practitioners and faith leaders across Canada.

We are also calling for significant investments in mental health care and stronger safeguards to protect those at risk.

We encourage Canadians to read our joint statement and urge the federal government to make the right decision. The lives and wellbeing of vulnerable Canadians are at stake.

Alhamdulillah, earlier this week, a diverse group of over 70 Imams and scholars from across Canada gathered in Cornwall, Ontario, for the 𝗖𝗖𝗜 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗺𝘀’ 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁, 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶. The goal: brotherhood, renewal, and growth.

Over three days, the retreat created space for learning, reflection and meaningful connection among imams serving communities across the country.

The program included discussions on imam wellbeing and support, personal safety, healthy living, leadership, AI, civic engagement, challenges facing Muslims in Quebec, the future of CCI, and other areas affecting Imams and their communities, along with mental health training by Ruh Care. Just as importantly, there was time to reconnect, share experiences, enjoy recreational activities and strengthen relationships outside the formal sessions.

We are deeply grateful to all of the Imams and scholars, presenters, volunteers and partners who contributed to making the retreat such a meaningful gathering. May Allah reward them for taking the time to attend and for their valuable contributions.

Masha Allah, the initial feedback has been extremely encouraging, with participants repeatedly highlighting the value of brotherhood, networking and the opportunity to spend time with fellow Imams and scholars from across Canada.

May Allah bless these relationships, strengthen our imams, and allow us to continue serving our communities with sincerity, wisdom and unity.

Jazakum Allahu khayran to everyone who was part of this year’s retreat. We missed those who weren't able to join us. We look forward to welcoming them next year, Insha Allah.

Places of worship, whether mosques, churches, synagogues or temples, must remain sanctuaries of peace and prayer. Violence in or around these sacred spaces strikes at something fundamental to all faith communities: the right to gather and worship in safety and without fear.

Hatred directed at any faith or community, and violence against innocent people, are unacceptable, wherever they occur. These are principles we have stated and believed in consistently and unequivocally.

It is in this spirit that we are deeply concerned by the shooting outside the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Belleville, Ontario, as members of the Jewish community gathered to observe Yom Kippur.

We are grateful that everyone inside the synagogue is safe, and we pray for the swift and full recovery of Belleville Police Const. Jeff Smith, who was seriously injured in the exchange of gunfire.

For Canadian Muslims, this incident hits painfully close to home. The Quebec City mosque shooting in 2017, in which six members of our community were killed, also took place on a quiet Sunday evening as worshippers gathered peacefully for prayer.

We stand with our Jewish neighbours and colleagues at this difficult time.

On Tuesday, CCI Executive Director Imam Sikander Hashmi joined NCCM and other Muslim leaders on Parliament Hill to speak on the Canadian government's ban on trade with illegal settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Here are 3 supplications to recite regularly throughout the school year.

We wish all students a safe, successful, and fulfilling school year ahead. Be sure to drop by the masjid regularly!
