CEPI's work is at the core of the to build and deliver solutions to new pandemic threats in 100 days, which will save lives and keep us ALL more secure.

The current Ebola outbreak, like hantavirus, serves as a warning.

And we should heed it.

Canada needs to change course away from aid cuts and towards investment in pandemic preparedness. Global health is a national security issue. Being prepared means lives and money saved.

Good news! The European Union just pledged €73.7 million to support the vital work CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations) is doing to prepare us for the next pandemic 🛡️

The next pandemic isn't a matter of IF but a matter of WHEN and outbreaks are a TOP global security risk. We just have to look at the headlines about Ebola and hantavirus to know this.

We have to be ready.

🚨 The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Ebola outbreak in DRC and Uganda as a public health emergency 🚨

This is terrible news for the region and the communities struggling with a disease with no approved vaccines.

Experts do not consider this outbreak to have a risk of escalation to pandemic proportions (learn more: https://cepi.net/bundibugyo-virus-what-it-and-what-it-not).

But, like hantavirus, this serves as a warning. And we should heed it.

Outbreaks happen. and always have. But their speed and scale have intensified, amplified by current contexts of conflict, displacement, and climate change.

In the middle of all this are the people behind the numbers - lives lost because we were not ready. And we were not ready because we didn't have the political will to invest in preparedness to the extent needed.

Canada needs to change course away from aid cuts and towards investment in pandemic preparedness. Canada needs to see global health as a national security issue because diseases do not respect borders.

Canada has long been a champion of global health. Now is the time to reaffirm that commitment by standing firmly behind the WHO and Africa CDC , and by investing in Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations - CEPI and the 100 Days Mission to ensure the world can develop safe and effective vaccines within 100 days of the next pandemic threat.

What if the world had delivered COVID-19 vaccines in 100 days?

Modelling shows that more than eight million people who died during the COVID-19 pandemic might be alive today if the international community had achieved CEPI’s to develop safe and effective vaccines within three months.

It also found that a successful 100 Days Mission could have:
👉 Prevented 800 million infections
👉 Averted 15.7 million hospitalisations
👉 Saved 4.8 million lives in lower middle-income countries
👉 Delivered economic benefits valued at up to US$14.3 trillion
