iSisters students learn 21st Century skills and gain confidence towards their own economic independence. We reach women through strategic community-based partnerships. All of our programs are designed and delivered collaboratively with our community partners. iSisters programs continue to offer cutting edge technology programs for women who otherwise would be unable to access or afford such services.

We get asked this a lot, so let's clear it up!

Who can join iSisters programs?
Women, girls and gender-diverse people who face barriers to employment or education.

Is there a cost?
No! All our programs are 100% free to participants.

Where are classes held?
Through community partner locations across Ottawa, and online.

Do I need prior computer experience?
Not at all! We start from the basics.

Do programs cover new technologies like AI?
Absolutely. iSisters is committed to digital equity, which means keeping our curriculum current. We include AI literacy modules so learners can confidently navigate the tools reshaping today's workplace.

iSisters in the Community: Where You'll Find Us 🏘️

iSisters doesn't wait for women to find us, we go where the community is.

Our programs and pop-up workshops are hosted inside shelters, newcomer centres, community housing buildings, and partner organizations across Ottawa, so learners can access training in a space that already feels familiar and safe. They can also participate online, where transportation isn't an issue and they can still be home when the kids return from school.

That meeting-people-where-they-are approach is one of the things that sets iSisters apart.

Behind the Stats: The Real Cost of the Digital Divide for Women 💻❌

Women facing poverty, displacement, or systemic barriers don't just lack job skills. They often lack access to the most basic tools the rest of us take for granted: a computer, a reliable internet connection, and someone to show them how it all works.

Without those tools, applying for a job means a trip to the library. Accessing government benefits means navigating confusing paper forms. Staying connected to family abroad means relying on others.

Emancipation Day: Freedom Includes Digital Freedom ✊🏿✊🏿✊

August 1st is Emancipation Day in Canada, marking the abolition of slavery in the British Empire in 1834. The day aknowledges that both Black and Indigenous peoples were enslaved on the land that is now Canada for over 200 years.

As we honour this day, we reflect on the ongoing fight for equity, freedom, and opportunity for Black women and all women facing systemic barriers.

At iSisters, we are committed to anti-racist, intersectional approaches to tech education. Every woman we serve deserves full participation in society, including the digital economy.

Online Safety & Digital Literacy: Empowering Women to Navigate Safely 🛡️🔐

Knowing how to use a computer is one thing. Knowing how to stay safe online is another, and just as important.

iSisters programs include online safety modules covering:
- Password protection and account security
- Recognizing phishing and scams
- Privacy settings on social media
- Reporting online harassment

iSisters is grateful to announce a Community Initiatives grant from the David & Susan Rose Fund, administered by the Ottawa Community Foundation, in support of our Skilled Digital Futures program.

Thanks to this generous support, we'll be able to offer new free digital literacy, AI literacy, and employability training to women and marginalized community members right here in Ottawa, helping more people build the skills and confidence they need for today's job market.
