Today is September 30th, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour and recognize all Indigenous peoples. Today, please take time to reflect on Canada’s colonial legacy and honour the resilience, strength, and enduring contributions of Indigenous communities.
We also recognize and remember the victims and survivors of residential schools, their families, and the lasting impact these policies continue to have today. Thank you to all the Indigenous voices who spoke at the uOttawa annual commemoration. Your speeches, performances, and stories were incredibly powerful, educational, and insightful, highlighting the NEED for more conversations and lasting relationships.

Thank you all so much for coming out to STRUWALK 2026! This post is just a snapshot of all the amazing support, help, and encouragement we received in putting together this event.
A huge thank you to Olina, Rowan, Natasha, and Edith for speaking and performing. A special thank you to Amara for being our main photographer and capturing the day, and to Mackenzie for coming out and lending us his photos as well. Thank you to our tablers for supporting our protest: Project Agape, MAX, CTSACT, The Feminist Conversations, YSB, The ORCC, and Interval House.

Finally, thank you to everyone who came out, marched with us, and protested — your voice matters, and we hope to see you again next time!

Seven years ago, The Purple Sisters brought SLUTWALK to Ottawa. Since then, we’ve gathered at the Human Rights Monument to advocate for change.

After thoughtful committee discussions, feedback from attendees, and conversations about community concerns, we’ve decided to rename the initiative STRUTWALK.

The name may be changing, but our commitment to creating a safer, more inclusive movement hasn’t!

OSAP cuts reduced the amount of financial aid students receive, especially grants, from 85% to 25%, and increased reliance on loans. For many, that means more debt or being forced to leave school altogether.

And it’s not just nursing. Students across all programs are being priced out of their education. The consequences don’t stop at graduation, they affect our workforce, our healthcare system, and our future.

We can’t stay silent about this. Pay attention, talk about it, and hold decision-makers accountable. Accessible education should be a priority, not a privilege!
