Dear Rainbow Dove Family and Friends,

I am writing to you today to bring your attention to a case of an LGBTQI person living in Africa who is serious danger.

Tortured by his family in his home country for being gay, he fled to a second country to apply for refugee status. There he encountered even more peril when his partner’s uncle discovered that his nephew was in a gay relationship. A member of the military intelligence in that country, the uncle used his position to track down and “discipline” him with severe beatings. His apartment was firebombed. He also set a group of thugs on him who beat him and attacked him with a machete. When he sought refuge with church people, the uncle attacked them as well, leaving him homeless.

As a homeless person, he was detained by the police and faced deportation. Fortunately his sponsoring group here in Canada (Rainbow Doves) was able to get him released but he is still on the streets. When the group here in Canada tried to help him leave to go to a third country to escape the uncle, his exit was denied. The group continues to try to help him escape but resources are needed to support him and these efforts.

Rainbow Doves is happy to announce that one of our sponsorships has officially landed in Canada as Permanent Residents. These two men have fled from Africa, passed through India and have finally made it to Canada through the efforts of not only Rainbow Doves, but mentors from the team,the lawyers and all of our donors. We thank everyone who was invested and involved in this sponsorship and hope you will stay tuned with us as we continue to work to settle and to help bring more LGBTQ refugees

Here's a refresher: Rainbow Doves is currently trying to help two immigrants (a couple) come to Canada. Both individuals are from Africa but are currently in India, a country where people can be homophobic and racist. These men have been verbally abused, physically assaulted and faced rejected both at at home and in India but your donations are going to help change their predicament.

So, we would like to express our sincere gratitude for all your donations! We could not have reached this point without all your input. Your contribution means that when these two immigrants come to Canada, they can secure housing, food, education and a brighter and safer future as compared to where they were.Thank you all, YOU ROCK!!!!

Help us as we raise a minimum of $30k CAD to bring Khalil and Rahim to Canada with a target of reaching 75% of this amount by April 2023, but we are aware with inflation they will need more.

These funds are targeted at helping support them for one year as they assimilate into Ottawa. During that year the group empowers them, and builds capacity, and peer support on their path to becoming Canadians.
