The Durham Region Le***an Social & Support Group was formed for women residing in and near the Durham Region, who would like to meet other women in a welcoming and respected atmosphere for socializing and support. This group is more appropriate for those who are over the age of 35, who identify as being le***an, bi-sexual, or questioning. We all are at various levels of comfort regarding our sexua
lity, but one thing we all have in common is a desire to feel included, liked, and accepted. Our goal is to provide a welcoming refuge of understanding and empathy so that we can enjoy and embrace being ourselves around those who are open to receiving us. Our purpose is to provide opportunities to form friendships and make connections that aim to enlighten, nurture and support one another. It is our hope that we will bring women closer together socially, emotionally, and mentally. Have you recently come out and want to make lasting, like-minded friendships? Are you fully comfortable with identifying as a le***an and have a need to expand your social network by sharing your life experiences and embracing new ones? Are you “out” at home and with select family members and friends but not at work? Are you involved in a straight relationship and are questioning your sexual identity? Are you hesitant with "coming out" and unsure of how to even begin the process and are looking for someone to talk with? Do you have the ability and aspiration to help others with questions and concerns on a wide variety of topics such as self-identity, “coming out”, developing and enhancing relationships, societal issues, and other gay-related subjects? The promotion of activities will come from the membership, and we encourage everyone to share their interests, and be open to trying new things. As a starting point, we would like to attract those who may be interested in:
Dinner parties and evening socials
Group counseling, resolving, and support nights
Game Nights such as euchre, Wii, party games and board games like Scruples, Cranium, etc
Sporting and recreational activities like bowling, billiards, darts, paintball, geocaching, nature walks, softball, and basketball
Live theatre and movie nights
Weekend getaways and group vacations
Evening entertainment to local events such as drag shows, karaoke, open mic, and live performances in a gay-positive venue
Day outings to museums, auctions, antique shops, casinos, Mosport, roller derby, horse races, conventions, community Pride events, etc
