Last week Travis Shilling led an outdoor studio program at Fool’s Paradise, Doris McCarthy’s former home & studio on the historical Scarborough Bluffs. Travis gave a talk reflecting on his relationship to land, water, and plein-air painting, as a deer stood close by, listening. It was a magical day of art, nature and new connections. Thank you to all the talented artists who joined Travis and the incredible staff from the Doris McCarthy Gallery & Ontario Heritage Trust for providing this memorable afternoon.

This week, Arthur Shilling’s 5-panel masterpiece, The Beauty of My People, made the journey back to Rama for a day of celebration before it moves to the permanent collection at the Art Gallery of Ontario. We want to thank Chief Ted Williams, Council, and the brilliant communications and facilities departments for putting on such a spectacular event. We will never forget this magical day. We would also like to thank Renée van der Avoir from the AGO for handling this process with such care and respect.

We look forward to seeing The Beauty of My People again very soon, hanging proudly at the Art Gallery of Ontario. Baamaapii 🔥

The exhibition, Cartographies of Longing, is now on display at the Doris McCarthy Gallery until December 5th, 2026. This exhibition features some incredible artists, including a painting by Travis & his late father, Arthur Shilling. Thank you to the wonderful staff at the University of Toronto for a beautiful opening reception.

Dark House Fishing completely cuts off the sunlight and casts a shadow; fishermen could eliminate the glare on the water’s surface. This provided a crystal-clear, darkened window into the aquatic environment, allowing them to track fish unspotted before striking with a spear. The shadows reveal what’s underneath the surface.

Otter Art Club will be at Studio Point, 2 pm - 4 pm this Saturday & Sunday at Mariposa Folk Festival! Stop by, make some art and see the beautiful easel collaboration between Travis Shilling & Will McGarvey. This was an extra special project because we got to spend a week in Will’s studio learning how to work with metal and gaining a new understanding of this incredible and powerful material 🔥
