Off-road vehicles to be prohibited in the Kamloops Fire Centre
August 10, 2026

KAMLOOPS – Effective at 12 p.m. (noon) Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) on August 10, 2026, off-road vehicles (ORV) will be prohibited on Crown land throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre.

Given the scope and scale of fires currently burning in B.C., and the elevated danger ratings in many southern regions of the province, this prohibition is being put into place to further protect public safety.

As of 12 p.m. (noon) PDT on August 10, 2026, the operation of any off-road vehicle for recreational purposes on Crown land will be prohibited and all on-highway vehicles must remain on road surfaces as defined in the Forest Planning and Practices Regulation.

The prohibition applies to off-road vehicles as defined in the Off-Road Vehicle Act and section 2 (a) of the Off-Road Vehicle Regulation:

all-terrain vehicles
motorcycles
off-road side-by-side vehicles
This prohibition does not apply to private lands or national parks. It also does not apply to emergency response, agriculture or commercial / industrial users who operate off-road vehicles for farming or business purposes.

The ORV prohibition also does not apply to individuals who are customers of and remain in the presence of a commercial/industrial user operating an ORV for business purposes.

This prohibition will remain in place until 12 p.m. (noon) PDT on Oct. 9, 2026, or until the order is rescinded. The BC Wildfire Service is continually monitoring conditions and this prohibition may be expanded or rescinded as needed.

We will be welcoming evacuated people to the Firehall at 3 -4 today. We have clothing,toiletries.
Some snacks.
 We will also be accepting donations at this.  Cash donations go long way we have people of places for livestock, but they don’t have the feed so cash will help in that way.  It will also help  get a people items they need that we don’t have.

Donations for victims of the fires can be dropped off at the Firehall today between 2&4 pm .  Right now we’re looking for items clothing, personal hygiene items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, hairbrushes, cash donation, so people can purchase those items and get the brands of they use and any other things that you can think of for immediate use.
Later on we will put out a call for items that are needed for people that have lost their homes.  so no furniture, items or small appliances or anything right now.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Board of Directors has authorized the level of service authority recommendation for the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) to operate at an Exterior Operations Service Level.

This service level is in accordance with the British Columbia Structure Firefighters Minimum Training Standards, applicable WorkSafeBC requirements, RDOS Fire Department Operational Bylaw No. 2857, and associated operational guidelines.

The Exterior Operations Service Level currently applies to all eight (8) RDOS fire departments: Anarchist Mountain, Apex, Kaleden, Keremeos, Naramata, Okanagan Falls, Tulameen, and Willowbrook. Under provincial standards, the RDOS is responsible for authorizing the level of service each department provides. At the Exterior Operations level, firefighters are not permitted to enter fire-involved structures.

The RDOS delivers fire protection services through a regional governance and leadership model designed to promote consistency, accountability, and operational excellence across its eight fire departments. This structure helps ensure that training, safety practices, operational standards, and service delivery are coordinated throughout the Regional District.
