RDOS open burning update



Open burning season is in effect within the five RDOS fire protection areas from noon on Friday, October 16, 2026, to Thursday, April 15, 2027.



Open burning is outlined in Bylaw No. 2898, 2020, a bylaw to regulate open burning within the five RDOS Fire Protection Areas of Anarchist Mountain, Kaleden, Naramata, Okanagan Falls, and Willowbrook. As per Bylaw No. 2898, 2020, the Fire Chief may extend or reduce the burning season should conditions allow or require.



Residents within the five RDOS fire protection areas are required to complete a Burn Authorization application. Please visit the Public Parcel Viewer to confirm which Fire District boundary your property is located in. There is no fee, and no permits will be issued. Your request will be directed to your selected fire department. From that point, you will communicate with your local fire department.



Please visit the Permits & Licences tab on the front page of the RDOS website to access the Burn Authorization application, or click here. Burn Authorization applications will be accepted as of noon on Monday, October 12, 2026.



Burning authorization holders must confirm burning is allowed on that day by checking the Air Quality and Venting Index online or by calling 250-490-4125. Please ensure you are only burning permitted materials and have reviewed all safe burning practices. The Fire Chief may suspend any burning at any time, should they deem it unsafe or if smoke is creating an issue. Please be mindful of smoke affecting your neighbours.



If your property is located outside the areas listed above, please check with your local authority.

On Saturday, Deputy Chief Erin Iannella had the honour of escorting ambassador candidate Dallas Crawford onto the stage at the Venables Theatre and presenting her with a bouquet of flowers during the ceremony to name the 2026–2027 ambassadors.

Dallas has a proud connection to the Willowbrook Volunteer Fire Department: her mother, Shari, served as a firefighter, as did her grandparents. The department was honoured to sponsor Dallas in her ambassador candidacy and exceptionally proud of the dedication, confidence, and community spirit she demonstrated throughout the experience.

Having watched Dallas grow into an accomplished and remarkable young woman, we were impressed by the grace, courage, and maturity with which she represented herself, her family, and our department. Although she was not selected as an ambassador, her achievement in stepping forward, embracing the opportunity, and contributing so positively to the program deserves sincere recognition. It has been a privilege to support Dallas, and we are confident she will continue to make a meaningful and positive difference in her community.

Off-road vehicles to be prohibited in the Kamloops Fire Centre
August 10, 2026

KAMLOOPS – Effective at 12 p.m. (noon) Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) on August 10, 2026, off-road vehicles (ORV) will be prohibited on Crown land throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre.

Given the scope and scale of fires currently burning in B.C., and the elevated danger ratings in many southern regions of the province, this prohibition is being put into place to further protect public safety.

As of 12 p.m. (noon) PDT on August 10, 2026, the operation of any off-road vehicle for recreational purposes on Crown land will be prohibited and all on-highway vehicles must remain on road surfaces as defined in the Forest Planning and Practices Regulation.

The prohibition applies to off-road vehicles as defined in the Off-Road Vehicle Act and section 2 (a) of the Off-Road Vehicle Regulation:

all-terrain vehicles
motorcycles
off-road side-by-side vehicles
This prohibition does not apply to private lands or national parks. It also does not apply to emergency response, agriculture or commercial / industrial users who operate off-road vehicles for farming or business purposes.

The ORV prohibition also does not apply to individuals who are customers of and remain in the presence of a commercial/industrial user operating an ORV for business purposes.

This prohibition will remain in place until 12 p.m. (noon) PDT on Oct. 9, 2026, or until the order is rescinded. The BC Wildfire Service is continually monitoring conditions and this prohibition may be expanded or rescinded as needed.

Off-road vehicles to be prohibited in the Southeast Fire Centre

We will be welcoming evacuated people to the Firehall at 3 -4 today. We have clothing,toiletries.
Some snacks.
 We will also be accepting donations at this.  Cash donations go long way we have people of places for livestock, but they don’t have the feed so cash will help in that way.  It will also help  get a people items they need that we don’t have.
