The Right Fit Program is a peer-led accessible housing initiative led by Disability Alliance BC (DABC). It matches wheelchair users with affordable, accessible homes and independent living supports, and works with housing providers to fill vacant, accessible units across Metro Vancouver and the Capital Regional District.

For many people living with disabilities, finding accessible housing is incredibly difficult. Limited availability, affordability barriers, and inaccessible buildings can place individuals at risk of homelessness, unsafe living conditions, hospitalization, or institutionalization. The right fit program works directly with clients, housing providers, and community supports to help match people with housing that meets their accessibility needs.

Since launching, the program has helped 373 individuals secure stable, accessible housing.

In march 2026, DABC learned that federal reaching home funding for the right fit program would not be fully renewed after six years of continuous support. While DABC has since secured partial funding, it currently covers only 38% of the annual operating costs needed to continue running the program at full capacity in Vancouver.

This means the future of the program remains uncertain, despite the clear and ongoing need for accessible housing supports within the disability community.

Over the past several weeks, community members, advocates, partner organizations, housing providers, and right fit clients have spoken out in support of the program by attending rallies, sharing information, and advocating for continued funding.

As DABC stated in its may 15, 2026 update:

β€œWithout stable funding, wheelchair users in need of accessible housing will continue to face significant barriers and increased risk of homelessness and housing instability.”

Accessible housing is not a luxury. It is a basic human right, and programs like right fit provide life-changing support for people who would otherwise face significant barriers to safe and stable housing.
